If the Croft has a TAPE OUT you can take the phono feed from this to your power amp.

If the Croft has a TAPE OUT you can take the phono feed from this to your pre-amp.

The tape out will have a set volume output that bypasses the volume control so may be too low.

Turntable IN connections to Croft.

Croft output to OUT,

The OUT phono's are volume controlled so set Croft output to low to start, the Croft volume control and the pre amp volume controls will be available.

Set Croft to zero, set Pre amp to perhaps 45 degrees.

Try increasing Croft to hear results, if too low increase volume on Croft.

Suggest you do this slowly, if both volume controls are high your speakers may disappear in smoke

Obviously both Croft and pre amp need to be connected to power.

The only time I used a tape out for something which I now can't remember :) it was full signal. Of course I was forgetting that the pre-amp would have variable out.

Thanks Rob will try the tape out first with ALL volume set at zero , then adjust slowly :) avoiding  no smoke needed here

Thanks Gary will have a look at this option if the tape out does not work

Out of interest how did you have them connected with zero output?

Rob , I have just re read you comment , I want the Croft phone to go into the pre amp ( 4 line only imputs ) combo not direct to the power amp

OK I noticed you changed the pre / power comment

 Think it was TT into phono in Croft then out ( but it says to amp  )

Surely this should work, if you took the output from your Croft pre amp to amp, this should work, as the Croft is acting normally?

Gary , I want to go from the croft into my pre amp then pre amp into the power amp ,

just using the croft as a phono stage not a pre amp

Yes I understand but the way you thought you connected originally should have worked, not as you wanted it to but it was connected as a stand alone phono/pre so should have worked as long as the power was on.

The way I described it above uses the phono but not the preamp.

GaryNot if the volume on both was at low level! I used my old Croft Micro Basic as a phono stage with the Tape Out once I'm sure.

Before connecting up the Croft 25R I sent Glen a email asking, this is Glens reply

You can use it as a phono stage by taking the outputs from the line out sockets but because the output impedance is very high it is unlikely to work well. You'd probably get better results by using the whole pre-amp and setting the pots at a suitable level to give the gain required.

Looks like it Gary , Im not capable or willing to alter the 25R so back to the drawing board for a phono only solution

Are you after a stand alone valve phonostage?

Yes but price dependent

Yes but price dependentWhy not build one of my BigBottle phonostages.

Price is your choice then.

We're a couple of weeks away from the final revision of the PCB and then it's a case of beta testing the board. If you can wait a few weeks, it could be perfect.
