I’ve just pulled the trigger on a Jelco TK-850S tonearm to replace my Origin Live Encounter MkIII. I decided I was fed-up changing cartridge’s on a fixed headshell arm. I have always found set-up to be quite a faff on the Encounter and feel the Jelco is so much easier and should sound close with its new knife-edge bearing.
I would like to ask you guys what 2nd headshell i should purchase for my Hana SL?

I can recommend the Jelco HS-30. I have a Jelco TK850s and find it works very well with an AT33PTG/II and Decca Supergold.

I use, and have been a big fan of the ADC LMG-1 Magnesium headshell for many years, it’s no longer in production but can be picked up fairly easily used, I bought mine in mint condition on ebay for just under £30, worth seeking out.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190925/215f7ad0be8ef97428afdf32f78a0b04.jpg

I have the Jelco TK-850M 10" and I am going to buy a better head shell to use with my Micro Benz LP-S, I chatted with Hugo at Ammonite Audio and he said that the https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/timestep-t-01hs-ebony-headshell/ or https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/jelco-hs-30-headshell/, I think he offers a discount to AoS members.Might be worth having a chat with him.

I will be going for the Timestep ebony once I get some pennies together.

Keep it simple, Audio Technica Technihard ones, come in various weights to suit cart compliance. I'm sure there's better, but if your going to have a few carts they give one constant.

Why not just buy another HS-25 so both cartridges use the same headshell?

This is all you need: https://www.thakker.eu/en/zubehoer/headshells-tonarme/audio-technica-at-lh18-occ-headshell/a-7602/

Has both azimuth and overhang adjustment, with the minimum of mechanical interfaces.

Jelco TK-850S is a really nice arm, I was well impressed when I heard it.

Advice here is all missing the key point, that if you want to minimise re-setting up when you change headshells you should be looking at something that ends up round about the same weight overall as the assembly (cart + headshell) that you are taking off, and also conforms in other ways such as height, adjustment/alignment capability.

The Yamamoto suggested here is a great headshell, I picked up two recently and it's a handy middleweight at 12g. Perhaps worth looking out for the HS-1AS version which has longer slots, to make sure you have sufficient adjustability (I certainly need the full length). I'm also a fan of the AT-LH18 suggested by Barry but be aware it's an 18g headshell so if you have say a 10g cartridge things can get pretty heavyweight! There is a 15g version as well.

If you are regularly setting up cartridges this gizmo is very handy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TECHNICS-OVERHANG-GAUGE-SL-1200-SL-1210MK2-3-5-GENUINE-NEW-1200-1210/123894561594?epid=2254400975&hash=item1cd8b0fb3a:g:RgQAAOSwQGVc9TWs

Excellent thanks
Wasn't aware of that

I'm partial to the Yamamoto HS4. Carbon fiber, around 11 grams (so very close to the 12 gram stock Jelco headshell) and a very nice jump up in sonic performance when compared to the Jelcos. The Ebony Yamamoto does look very nice and it's dirt cheap as well all things considered. No experience with that one here though.

I have two HS4's in play.

I think I've given up on headshells. Life is so much simpler with an SPU :). Literally plug and play. No more overhang worries or azimuth fiddling. Love it!

Hi guys, thank you for all your advise.
In the end I went for a Jelco HS30 headshell for the Hana SL and use the stock HS25 for the AT OC9XSH. The heavier HS30 perfectly compliments the lighter weight of the Hana. I was pleasantly surprised that the cartridge’s once set up in the headshells with the correct null points exactly matched on the front edge.
