My name is Frank and no doubt many members will recognise ny "Effem" handle from other forums.

I'm a subjective driven person who RESPECTS technical measurements but they are not my be all and end all.

I used to run a cable making business called "Krystal Kables" that was until the government decided that luxuries like bespoke cables should not be bought by the common man with their disposable income, but that same money you would have spent on those little pleasures would be better housed in it's coffers.

I love a GOOD argument about cables, but I won't be baited or stick my nose in where it's not welcome. Ask, you get my opinion.

My system is in a state of change at the moment and still in the process so to speak.

Just sold my Myryad Z112 CD player to a chap in France - where they are more popular than they are here. Go figure. In it's place I have managed to blag an Eastsound E5 which I have hankered after for a long time. It hasn't arrived yet and I should have sat on the Myryad for a few days. Never mind.

Up for sale is my Musical Fidelity F22 pre amp, so too is my Classe Ten power amp, but this is giving me nightmares because it's going to be a tough act to follow. Plan A is sell the F22 first, seek out another pre and keep the Classe. Plan B is if the Classe sells first I shall find a good integrated amp and sell the F22 regardless and maybe play with another DAC.

The F22 won't be difficult to replace in sonic terms. I can guarantee it (Croft - hint-hint). The beautifully built old Levinson 28 preamp isn't silly money now and hifi dave rated this one highly at the time as the only ss pre he'd heard which compared with a decent quiet valve preamp. Put it this way, it's rather cheaper now than an originally similarly priced ARC at the time, but far better.

Modern stuff, by and large, is all expensive bling and cachet, as decent components and boards don't cost the earth now..

The poor old F22 was beaten into a cocked hat by a $99 battery powered valve kit pre at a recent bakeoff :( Having said that, it ousted an AVI 2000 pre from what I heard from it at one of my owns bakeoffs, so it's a permanent ladder to climb isn't it? :lol:

I had actually looked at a Croft pre on ebay for my hit list, but methinks those twin volume controls will light a very short fuse having to fiddle with them all the time. Bad enough losing the remote control facility for an old lardarse like me :lol:
