Got some work to do in the garden, re-potting some plants and herbs, cutting the grass and general tidying, so the clement weather will allow for that. I'm not big on using main dealers for servicing, as you tend to pay through the nose for the same job that could be done by a good independent garage.

Unfortunately the coffee is not great. I have a service plan with Audi from when I bought the car last year, once it’s out of warranty will look elsewhere. No doubt they will find something although it’s also in for a recall on something.

With the Brabster, I buy all the necessary 'bits' and give it to the garage concerned [I'm fussy about what's put in, especially oil], which a friend of mine owns, and so only pay him for the labour:)

Anywhere is preferable to a Wehterspoons.
A few years since I went in a Wetherspoos. That would be the Preston one.
There was no music at all playing, and someone told me it was so people can have a conversation without having to shout. But the sound of several hundred people having a conversation was so deafening you had to shout to make yourself heard.
I'd rather listen to loud music than loud pissheads, so it was a big thumbs down for me :(

I consider myself to be reasonably happy and contented with life, but if something looked like fun, I wouldn't let anyone tell me not to do it, preferring to do some research then make up my own mind. Amazing I turned out normal really. Having said that, this monkey dust does NOT look like fun :( I worry for the kids of today.

I've noticed that people who have always been wealthy do a lot more drugs than people who have always been poor. You'd think it was just a question of economics and most of the time it probably is. But I've known a couple of poor people who totally cleaned up their act when they got wealthy, no more drink and drugs, healthy eating, running, cycling. And yet they were chronic users previously.
If you've got money, it's easier to buy drugs. That's obvious, but money or no money - the question is why do you need them, and what are you trying to escape from?

You seem to be making an assumption that everyone who takes drugs does so because they need them - not necessarily any more true than saying everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic. When you enjoy a bottle of wine or a few beers, what are you escaping from? Some folk just enjoy the buzz. Your drug of choice is alcohol, and like with most drugs (not all) that is fine.
As you've said previously, it's about moderation :) Although in the case of cocaine and so-called "legal highs" I don't think moderation is possible, hence my worry.
You're probably going to tell me that you don't drink for the effects it has, and you're perfectly entitled to do so, and I'm perfectly entitled to disbelieve you. Sure, you enjoy the taste, but I'm betting you haven't spent too much time trying out alcohol-free beverages ;)
I remember in the old clubbing days, some would say, "these people on ecstasy are just artificially happy because of the drug, it's not real". But I preferred to be in a place full of artificially happy friendly people than in a pub full of artificially aggressive and unpredictable pissheads.

I did have a go at windsurfing at one time, bought a board and everything. That hobby lasted about 5 minutes :( If I was going on the sea, I would rather be in something than on something.
How you getting on with your boats? When you take one out does the other one sulk? Perhaps you could join them together with a few planks, make a catamaran. Then if anyone gets seasick you can make them walk the plank over to t'other one :D

Firstly, I'm talking about drug ABUSE. The last word is self-explanatory, and the complete opposite of moderation. And the same applies with alcohol ABUSE. If you're staggering around towns like a zombie, as was described in the link Martin showed about Stoke (and the same thing happens in Wrexham, and throughout the whole of the UK), then you have a BIG problem - end of.
Secondly, I (and also Del) only drink wine with meals, but very rarely during the week (last night as we had friends visiting was an exception). Mostly we only have it at the weekend, often just for Sunday lunch, as traditionally that's when we'll enjoy a really nice meal, and where we'll share no more than a bottle between us (frequently there's some left over), and perhaps also have a small aperitif each beforehand. Wine, for most Italians and continentals, is simply an accompaniment to food.
Other than the odd bottle/can of beer (no more than 2 per week), that's all the alcohol I drink, and Del won't have any on a 'school night'. I can assure you that I don't derive any "buzz" from it, certainly at those levels of consumption, so it's simply about enjoying the taste, and alcohol in moderation. That's the continental way, and how I was brought up. My parents, nor indeed any of members my family, have ever ABUSED alcohol, or for that matter, drugs.
It's a tradition in Italian households, and I believe also in some in the UK, to keep a small 'bar' stocked with various forms of alcohol, which is mainly used for offering visiting guests a drink. In that respect, our house is full of alcohol, but it's hardly ever touched.
I've got bottles of very expensive malt whisky, for example, which I've not even opened, and others I haven't touched for months. And because I'm a somewhat of an oenophile, I have a 'cellar' full of wine, currently around 300 bottles, but only to facilitate being able to compliment/accompany different types of foods. Also because I'm a long-time collector/aficionado, and some fine-wines/certain vintages need 'laying down' in order to be enjoyed at their best.
I don't sit and neck them every night!:D

Well of course I don't drink alcohol for its effect, as with the small amount I consume, it has virtually NO effect.
It's just a pleasant thing to enjoy occasionally, just the same as a can of Coke; in fact I often derive MORE pleasure from that, or a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, than I do alcohol. Jeez, if I craved an "effect", how would I be able to give up ALL forms of alcohol for seven weeks, during Lent...? And I can say, hand on heart, that I stick rigidly to the required fasting/regime, and that other than on Sundays, don't really miss the alcohol.
In terms of alcohol-free beverages, I don't take them primarily because for me they taste like shit, in comparison with their alcoholic counterparts, especially beer:spew:. Therefore, if I'm going to abstain from alcohol, I'll take a soft drink instead, or have a nice cup of tea or coffee, and which I'll enjoy far more, simply because it's not pretending to be something it isn't!

Me too. These days I'd run a mile from that crap.
Don't get me wrong though, I did take some drugs in my teens, but nothing too heavy, and never to excess. I never got into the dreadful state that you see some kids in now. I simply didn't *need* the "buzz" (fortunately, I've never had an addictive personality, one of the reasons why I never took up smoking), plus I knew that if I came home 'zombied' in that state, my dad would've belted my arse into kingdom come!!
And that's a BIG part of the problem now: no discipline at home, in school or often anywhere else, to help keep kids (and others) under control.

Yeah, sorry about that dude, I hadn't read the previous posts properly (happens a lot). Post #108 didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, and I wasn't attacking people who like a drink, although it did read like that. So I was expecting a response, although not quite that wordy :D
You may have guessed that I'm fine with those who enjoy recreational drug use I(in moderation), but I do worry about how things are going these days (we're definitely on the same page with that). I don't know what the answer is, as soon as a particular "formula" is made illegal, the scumbag manufacturers just make one or two alterations and go back into production with absolutely no conscience about the damage it does.
Probably mostly used by folk who really have nothing much in life to strive for, and appears yo be widespread amongst the homeless. But also a lot of young people who, despite all the publicity, still seem to think that "legal highs" are somehow safer than the usual suspects. Even the few that don't appear to be immediately harmful could well be a ticking bomb :(

I’ve developed a taste for the local beer - Banks and the odd brandy, I prefer drinks that taste of alcohol, the rum punch is a bit too sweet for me. Keep forgetting the pics, will rectify that tonight.

I’ve developed a taste for the local beer - Banks and the odd brandy, I prefer drinks that taste of alcohol, the rum punch is a bit too sweet for me. Keep forgetting the pics, will rectify that tonight.

Yeah, sorry about that dude, I hadn't read the previous posts properly (happens a lot). Post #108 didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, and I wasn't attacking people who like a drink, although it did read like that. So I was expecting a response, although not quite that wordy :D
Lol... Just wanted to nail my position to the mast. so to speak! However, I didn't think that you were attacking anyone; simply challenging an opinion, which is absolutely fine (and welcomed):)
"People who like a drink", however could come across as indirectly meaning 'pissheads', which of course I'm not. Honestly, if it weren't for enjoying a nice glass of red, occasionally with meals, or the odd cold beer on a warm summer's day, I could give up alcohol altogether. As an example, I opened a can of beer last night, to watch the football, and half of it was left in the can... I just didn't 'need' it.
I honestly derive more pleasure from my morning cappuccino! Again, which I only have ONE of per day. A caffeine addict I am not.
You may have guessed that I'm fine with those who enjoy recreational drug use I(in moderation), but I do worry about how things are going these days (we're definitely on the same page with that). I don't know what the answer is, as soon as a particular "formula" is made illegal, the scumbag manufacturers just make one or two alterations and go back into production with absolutely no conscience about the damage it does.
Absolutely, on all counts. In terms of the bit in bold, however, my view is that if others can clearly tell you've taken drugs, even long before the stage of becoming 'zombied', then you've had too much. The effect should always be subtle, and contained within YOU. Therefore, having the odd spliff, just to chill after a hard day or whatever, is fine, as long as you don't *crave* it, and it turns into a habit that you can't control...
That's the thing with me - there is absolutely *nothing" I'm addicted to, or couldn't stop if I wanted - and that's exactly how I like it!:cool:

Yup, for most of the UK today's set to be a cracker. Just my kind of weather: dry and sunny, but with a nice cool breeze (very low humidity) and spot on the right temp, currently 23C:)
However.... Enjoy it while you can folks (do all your BBQ-ing, gardening or any other outdoor activities/jobs) TODAY, as tomorrow and the whole of next week, looks decidedly dodgy!!

Something odd going on around here - last two nights have seen the march of the maggots down our garden path. No idea where they are coming from, but I'm guessing perhaps something like a dead bird or mouse nearby, and the heavy rain's washed them out. Next morning they're all gone
There are a few dozen of them, and though their positions seem random, they are mostly heading towards the house. Which got Mrs. P in a panic, so at midnight she was going at them with bleach and a stiff brush. Can't have maggots on Mother Kelly's doorstep, oh no.
she was quite right..more power to her bleaching arm:lol:
if my mum was angry she used to say , you'll get a good bleaching in a minute... we thought she would sprinkle bleach on us, but it didnt mean that at all. it just meant she would beat us to a pulp:D

Anita knows I have no shame when it comes to matters of the bowel - If I ever do an outrageous dump I always invite her to have a look before flushing it (she usually declines).

Not good that you can sleep through your burglar alarm. Lucky for you that we live in the 21st century, if your ancestors slept that soundly they probably wouldn't live a long life. Perhaps your alarm needs some modifications, like a bucket of cold water over your side of the bed, supported on a motorised tilting platform, activated by the alarm. I've no doubt there will be plenty of boffins on here could rig one up for you :D

True I am getting up earlier than I did ten years ago, but I haven't done lie-ins since my teens. I suppose that makes me look like a morning person, but really I want an hour to myself first thing. Unfortunately, it's been chucking it down all day. On the bright side, the lawn really needs it and I don't have to spend 20 minutes watering plants.
Heavy showers all day here but cleared up after teatime and the sun came out for the last hour or so of daylight.
There are dead leaves in the gutters - sure sign of proper autumn starting. Only another month and the clocks go back and we're into perpetual darkness again.

I reckon a pot of the problem with rivers flooding their banks will be deforestation and loss of green areas to make way for new housing and the roads supplying them. Where once the rains would have soaked into the ground or been taken up by trees and other plantlife, much of it now just runs into drains and then empties into the rivers. A lot of rural areas which may well have been green belt before have been given over to developers, which to me is plain wrong.
Not enough is made of inner cities and towns imo. Towns centres are dead while the population is moving to the outskirts :(
yup, building in flood plains is crazy.. they are flood plains for a reason... and why our ansestors didnt build there

And chilly? It's 16C outside, and I'm sitting here in a t-shirt and shorts with no heating on, and still perfectly warm! You need to toughen up:ner:

Ah, but gutters these days are mostly plastic, so won't handle the weight. Health & Safety you see :( Which in any case states that, and I quote: "No one should hang from gutters by their fingertip for periods exceeding three hours without a minimum 15 minute comfort break". So 18 hour dangles are a thing of the past.

Christ don't you start on this whole New Puritanism thing too. You know there are people where I work who come in half an hour early so they can spend it walking in circles round the compound so they can 'get their steps up.' So tragic.
And the rest of Europe was pretty glad of our work rate when we were saving them from the Nazis. And that was all done on strong sugared tea, a gallon of beer and 20 Players a day.

Agreed that the 'steps' thing is rather tragic... No, we just enjoy getting our fair share of fresh air and exercise, naturally as part of a normal routine. Del, for example, walks to work now everyday (as the college where she works is just down the road) and leaves her car at home - better for her and the environment;)
And I make her a nice cup of tea (or whatever) when she comes in. It's all good, dude:)

The walk to the pub can be a fair bit of exercise, the walk home afterwards even more so due to the zig-zagging which at least doubles what it would be in a straight line. And a detour to the chippy could well add another couple of hundred yards :)
Plus, you don't need worry about getting fat, when you spew it all up on the pavement afterwards!:D

A cool 11C here. It was sunny, but the sky is turning dark grey as cloud is coming over from the west. Anything could happen!

Rum’s never really floated my boat but as my other half don’t drink I had her share - 2 rum punches then 6 shots of varying quality rum, just back for lunch and I’m a trifle wobbly.
I walked the six miles home in torrential rain. When I got in I was as wet as if I had just jumped fully clothed into a swimming pool. It was like a summer's day at lunchtime too.

Started to burn a bunch of old papers in the garden incinerator, then the rain came .... and continued .... hard ......
I did get some of the paper burnt before the downpour, but there's still at least one box to go.
Earlier it wasn't too bad, and I managed to go to the dump a couple of times, and offload boxes of more deadly stuff (e.g. bleach, weedkiller, paint etc.).
