Do capacitors squeal??

I have some Quad Esl63 which I haven't used for a while because one is making a high pitched squealing noise that seems to be coming from the electronics rather than the panels.
Could it be a capacitor on it's way out??
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Ask the Quad service department in Huntingdon. I've always found them to be very helpful when I have discussed equipment problems with them on the phone.

Unlikely to be a capacitor I think, possibly a high voltage arcing within the voltage step up circuit. Could be a rectifier diode failure.
Needs looking at.

caps and coils etc can whistle. usually coils. but it wont be amplified as such, just get louder dependant on the load etc. if its a cap it will be obvious.

I have inadvertantly blown up a cap and it squealed like a stuck pig until it erupted and spewed it's contents everywhere. Not a pleasant smell either.

Thank you everyone for replying, seems like it is possible then but also that there could be other explanations for the noise. Time for a systematic approach to find the source.....
