Update on these , Collected yesterday , What a lovely gent in a absolutely immaculate home , It is fantastic , The gent must be minted and have no money problems , nice position to be in , I did ask when he said he wanted to move and build a new home from the ground up how much the house would be marketed for ? The reply was £750 / £800 K
Anyway back to the H2's , Wow they are in fantastic condition , He purchased them new from Impulse so one owner , He told me he harley used them as he was more into TV and yes he had a top of the line bendy magneticly fixed LG tv with the LG sound bar , That was mind blowing , A TV you can stick on the wall and bend the screen :stalks:
Had to leave them in my van last night as what I thought would be a 1 hour trip ended up being a 6 hour trip , He was a very hospitable man and enjoyed talking about HiFi so I was in my element as well , 4 cups of coffee later I left for home , Managed to get the help of a gent from across the road to lift them into my hallway this morning as they were far to heavy for me on my lonesome :(
At some point today I now need a re arange in my ever shrinking front room :(
or I need a bigger house ( No I dont have £750K )
I am looking forward to fitting them up and experimenting with differen amp combos :eyebrows:
Also included were 2 x Granite bases and 8 spike pucks :)

Oh well done. I remember hearing a demo of these years ago with valves and being seriously impressed. My room was just too small though, some things never change.
Very cool Al. Would love to hear those. Look like a big speaker, what sort of height are they, 4ft?

Excellent - their bass drops away very rapidly if they are a few feet into the room and they can sound quite weedy and forward.
Lovely speakers when sited well.

Al, check out the H2 pages on the Acoustica website, there is a minor mod to do on the crossover that is well worth doing.
Impulse H2s are lovely speakers. In fact they are one of the very few folded horn-loaded speakers I can listen to and enjoy.
A friend of mine has a pair, tri-wired to an Audio Innovations 500 amplifier. They are located about 1/3 of the length of an L-shaped room. According to Jerry. this would appear not to be optimum, but my friend has little option. I can remember hearing that the reviewer Jimmy Hughes found turning the speakers around pointing into the corners improved the sound enormously; presumably the corner was acting as the final part of the horn.
Anyway, well done on finding yours. :) They are reasonably tall at around 4', but have a small footprint. What amplifier will you use with them?

I think that was more to do with the room he used them in.
I visited his apartment in the Barbican once, and he had a 2 level living room - the speakers were in the far corners on the lower level and the listening area was 6 or 8 feet higher at the other end of the space.
Strange setup, I think he found other speakers worked best for him facing the wall in that way as well.

Impulse H2: Arguably the best of the lot. A derivative of the H1 which appears to have superceded it. Mostly handmade cabinet, same driver complement as H1, but a simplified bass horn folding leads to reduced cabinet volume with negligible loss of sensitivity and extension. Capable of stupendous bass quality and extension - although specified for cutoff at 40Hz, in-room measurements at home show extension flat down to 30Hz, -6dB at c.27Hz. Positioning close to the rear wall is recommended, but this speaker is remarkably unfussy about siting. Tractrix midhorn with driver open to rear and top, inverted-dome tweeter Sensitivity 95dB/W, 8ohm
Drivers: 8.5" Seas bass; 4.5" Seas mid; Focal tweeter.
Crossover ponts: 800Hz; 4Khz; 2nd order summed response.
Size: 1160mm H x 270mm W x 480mm D
Finishes: Rosewood or Oak with cloth inserts
Weight: approx 65KG / 140lb each.
Available: 1991-1996(?); list price c.£2,300
Reviews: 3 raves to pick from! (note these are all large images - 1024 pixels wide, GIF format, c. 250Kb)

Bass: H1, H2, Ta'us
Seas 21F-WBX: 8.5" diecast magnesium chassis, coated paper cone 21 F-WBX.pdf (944K)
Note replacements, if required, should have Qts <0.3, Fs <35hz, sensitivity of 93dB (i.e as high as possible!). Suitable drop-in replacements such as the SEAS H333 (CA21REX) are unfortunately no longer in current production, though you might find a fairly close match from Vifa for the 215mm chassis. However - the GOOD NEWS- these units can easily have the foam surround replaced, and you can do it yourself as shown on the the H1/H2/Ta'us bass driver re-foam page
.
.Midrange: H2, Ta'us, probably H1 also
Seas 11F-M: 4.5" doped paper cone, diecast magnesium chassis. 11F-M.pdf (136K) otherwise known as the H143.pdf (136K)
Replacements, if required, should have Qts around 0.7 and sensitivity of 89-90dB. Using a higher sensitivity will require padding-down with a low-value series resistor owing to high sensitivity contributed by the Tractrix horn loading. Using a driver with significantly lower sensitivity will lead to a recessed midrange - there is no scope for raising the output of the midrange crossover (i.e. no existing series resistor in the crossover to remove)
.
.
.Tweeter: H1, H2, Ta'us, H5
Focal TC90K: 1.35T magnet, kevlar inverted dome. TC90K.pdf (116K)
Well, not quite: The kevlar dome the Impulses used was a custom build using the kevlar/glassfibre dome in a 120-sized magnet and faceplate... which is 120 x 120mm, rather than the 90 x90mm of a TC90.
So - there is an easy replacement & upgrade for owners of speakers using this tweeter - substitute the Focal TC120TD5.pdf (136K) - if you can find them now that Focal has stopped supplying the aftermarket! This may require adjusting/adding an L-pad to reduce the treble level - the '120 is 2dB more sensitive than the '90K - try 1ohm resistor in series, with 22-ohm R across the 120s terminals, to begin with.

Personally I think you need to de-clutter before you can do a proper listening session, still you won’t need to go to the gym later. then you can sit down and have a rest:pat:

A friend of mine has a pair and used to live in a third floor flat. I helped him carry the speakers up the flights of stairs and can tell you they are bloody heavy - heavier than a sack of cement, but less managable.

Like I said it’s a bloody typo lol!
There is NO WAY these weigh 65kg each. I had help to put them in the Jeep when I bought them, but I carried them into the house myself on my shoulder. I’m a strong bloke but I’d struggle badly trying to get 65kg onto my shoulder with something the size of these speakers.
I used to carry my Mr Liang amp to bake offs and that was a struggle up two flights of stairs to my flat at the time and that weighed 50kg. No way I could have put it on my shoulder, and that was 20 or so years ago.
possibly the quote was for both. its often done and then mistyped as each.
weight isnt the whole thing tho, its the distrobution and ability to grip and walk. a 3 by 2 slab is a very heavy thing to cart around as its difficult to grip and hold plus walk...especially if there are 100 of the buggers

Not nearly as bad as carrying a dead body, and rolling it up in a carpet makes it even worse. Never doing that again
32 kilo each sounds about right.

I presume you do not have a SWMBO to appease or possibly the luxury of another room for personal use, I dream of such a room but am not allowed such frivolous use of real estate:doh:.
By the way I used to have a pair and they definitely are about 32kg each, I and Sue could carry a speaker between us easily.
Enjoy listening to them.

Working as a mason pavior, I carried thousands of the things and the smaller ones. A 3ft slab weighs 170lb, I used to pick them up and rest them on my nut while carrying them up the road. I spent years laying the damn things too and granite and concrete kerb.
