It's the last recording that the Beatles made together, so of significance to Beatles fans.
My partner lives in London and we often pass the EMI Abbey Road studios, and are amused by the pereninal tourists who visit the address to pay 'homage'.
Today was the 50th anniversary of the issue of 'Abbey Road', and there was a near constant use of the zebra crossing by visitors having their photos taken re-enacting the album cover.

There was a rumor that the Abbey Road pedestrian crossing, seen on the famous Beatles' "Abbey Road" album cover, was no longer in the same place. This rumor was perpetuated by a statement from Westminster Council saying the crossing had been moved several meters for a traffic management scheme about 30 years ago.
An employee at Abbey Road Studios who explained this story was put out by old-time residents to stop so many people going to take photographs. It didn't work and it isn't true, although Westminster Council never retracted the statement.

I would have thought it would be pretty easy to verify by anyone that knew the area and was old enough to remember.
You should be able to tell from all the photographs taken over the years.

The white gateposts of the house on the left are visible in both pictures (in the original just by the white VW 'Beetle' (which I guess was there just out of happy coincidence). From that I'd say if the crossing has moved it cannot be by more than a few feet.

Judging from the current Google image (https://goo.gl/maps/xKSSE1zgTFWaMxP79) of the crossing and old pictures (incl. the album cover) I agree the crossing if it did move it was only by a few feet. Have a look also at the tops of the building on the rhs.

Funny watching some people cross over several times. Seems like the crossing has become a religious site.

Seems so. The studios have two entrances - common for such houses.

Next door is the bookshop.
Amazing amount of grafitti on the walls. The council has to paint over it every few months.
being my fav beatles album, i will no doubt buy one of the packages... most likely the 2 cd version, if and when i can afford it.

Not a new question by any means.
I certainly don't mean to deny the value of fresh perspective. But I'm not sure when this sort of thing (meaning remixing) reaches the point where it's not authentic any more.

PeteIt's authentic In that the band is still responsible for every sound you hear.
I like the remixes very much. Shame about the prices.

I bought the deluxe 3 lp version. Sonically it's spot on. I've only listened to it through my valve system, I suspect it's going to be something very good indeed with the 1210 and ATC's :mad:
its very good, cd wise on cans anyway, if maybe a tad overly pushed sonically. a couple of db too high imo.

Yes I have the 2 cd version and the single lp version and the cd is a little bit loud, DRC Database confirms this, though it still sounds good, the vinyl on the other hand is spot on, maybe mastered a little lower than usual, but it's half speed and sounds superb.
That's an issue with most things Giles Martin does. The white album and Sgt pepper have that issue.

That one (to my ears anyway) sounded like a fresh pressing of the one I've had since early years of high school (about 1975).

it is yes.. i used have it too on vinyl.. fact i think i still do...think i might have it on cd too

The 50th Anniversary edition is a remix.
It's pretty faithful to the original mix, but coming from multi track source it's possible to eq things to have a bit more flesh on the bones.
I like it.
