Home Printer reccomendations

Any recommendations for a home printer which would be used only occasionally.
The prints would be from an iPad or phone, so wireless, usually just forms and plain text, not photos.
Currently have an Epson which skips lines and can't be made to work properly despite cleaning head, nozzles and various other tricks. I DON'T want another of this brand as I read they are getting continually more pernickity and prone to such failings. Thanks.

I use a Canon MG6250. May well be a newer model out now.

Probably beyond what you need. Easy to operate (print, scan, copy etc). Non Canon cartridges work just fine - so cheap to run.

Buy a laser printer not one with Ink cartridges :)

Have a look in Curry's there are some bargains, I bought a Sony but can't remember the model.

When you say occasional use, would that be more than 15 pages per month? HP printers that are eligible for the instant ink scheme provide an option of 15 free pages per month. I set my mum up on one because that is all she needs. HP monitor your ink levels via the internet and send out replacement inks before you need them. You can pick up eligible printers very cheaply, the one I got for mum was £20 on sale in Tesco, so for very low printing levels it was an easy decision.

If you need to print more than 15 pages it's a more difficult decision and you need to weigh up the instant ink packages against buying a printer and inks separately. The next instant ink package is £1.99/month for 50 pages and you can rollover up to 100 pages.

I suspect there is nothing to stop HP stopping the free ink package some time in the future if they are not making enough money from the scheme.

I am also on an instant ink package but managed to get 20 months free using referral codes - I signed up to 300 pages per month which would be £7.99/month but I typically use less than 50 pages per month. I will drop down to £1.99 package when my free months finish.

It wouldn't even be 15 sheets a month - you might wonder why we need a printer at all, so do I, but we do seem to find ourselves needing to print travel documents or something like that at the last minute and it's a PITA popping along to the library to do it (if it happens to be open).

I would also go for a monochrome laser. With such low inkjet printer volumes the inks tend to dry up and the nozzles get blocked. I have been impressed with the Samsung wifi lasers.

I’m quite keen on the idea of a laser, but as mentioned printing will be from Apple devices so it needs to be AirPrint compatible. Also them toners are damned expensive, do they deteriorate over time at all?

The toner carts last ages and no they dont deteriorate over time

I would get a Xerox model that supports AirPrint and Google CloudPrint — that would make it perfect for printing from iPhone/iPad. I personally use Phaser 3020 and it’s been completely trouble free, although I must admit I don’t print much (haven’t managed to use up the included cartridge in three years).
