This...was hard.

A few years ago I invested heavily in a vinyl playback setup after, like a lot of us, many years away.

Very quickly it became apparent that I wasn't playing it anywhere near as much as I should to justify the outlay, always reverting back to the convenience of Digital, albeit with reduced sound quality.
I've not been listening to vinyl much and frankly...given it's level of playback...the equipment not being used in my setup is a damn shame.
The convenience of Digital has me trapped I guess.

As such - I have decided to downsize my vinyl rig.
A bold move considering what I've invested in it, but honestly for the last few years it's only ever been an occasional listen for me.

I'm not benefiting from this vinyl setup and want to pass it on to someone who will.

So...with regret and some wisdom gained...up for sale is what you see here.
https://i.imgur.com/arr2Vfo.jpg

The deck, the arm and the cart like new condition, I've invested heavily in getting the most from my vinyl playback and this deck sounds as good as anyone would likely ever need in 95% of systems.
My preference is to sell as a package, makes more sense than to break this deck up, but would consider selling items separately, but buying as a complete package (and saving over individual prices) will net someone a helluva bargain.
Plus - The deck was designed AROUND the arm, no better match.

OK, first a summary, then detail on each of the 3 items for Sale.

https://i.imgur.com/smjQ89A.jpg

Bought a far more basic version of this Turntable in 2014 and have over time significantly upgraded it over the standard Gyro SE specification, namely:

_05/2015 - New spec Motor unit, Springs and Springcovers from Michell Engineering
_03/2016 - Orbe black double spider plinth to improve isolation and Orbe feet to fit double plinth
_06/2016 - Replaced Michell Technoarm with SME V
_06/2016 - Fitted Gerd Pedersen SME Armboard upgrade (Details http://www.pedersensgyro.dk/armboard) (http://www.pedersensgyro.dk/armboard)
_08/2016 - Replaced Gyro platter with Orbe platter and improved clamp.

Deck much loved, with regular checks on setup etc.
Not excessively played either; more Digital for convenience nowadays, the turntable was a luxury I could dip into as and when.
Deck sounds incredible as you'd expect: as good as example as you could hope to get - money and time spent on it, no wear and tear looks like new.

Taken recently to Audio Origami for full service and setup, Jon's done his magic a couple of times to the deck since I've had it.
Setup, new belt, bearing re-lubed with J7's bearing oil kit - Deck, arm and cart all set up the way they should be.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOR SALE: ITEM 2 - SME V TONEARM

The SME V arm is a bit of a landmark, like the Michell turntable it's British engineering at it's best.
The Michell turntable was literally DESIGNED around a SME V...they were BUILT to be used together.
One of those combinations that Historically just "works".

Some history on the one I'm selling:
I bought this SME V from London Hifi Dealer Lotus HIfi in 2016. It was being sold as a "mint example" with original box and all tools, alignment protractor, templates etc.
The Dealer sold the arm from new to a Customer in 2012, and that same Customer traded it into the same Dealer in late 2015 when he upgraded his Avid turntable. Unfortunately the arms geometry wasn't compatible with his new Deck.
Its a December 2011 build and is the latest iteration of the arm.

And he wasn't wrong in his description, the arm was like new.
Not a scratch, a blemish, damaged paintwork nothing.
Been on the same high end Avid turntable since it was purchased and traded back in to the Dealer it was bought from.

The perfect scenario when buying something like this...?
Recently set up and serviced by Audio Origami, its performance is maximised perfectly for the Michell deck it sits on.

SOME PICS
Original Inner and outer boxes, all accessories, tools etc are complete and present.

https://i.imgur.com/85n3Mfi.jpg

From the pics you can see the Gerd Pedersen armboard upgrade (clear plastic disk under the arm) and this brought out more of what the arm could show, and is a much better sounding design than the basic Michell armboard coupling setup.
Details HERE:
http://www.pedersensgyro.dk/armboard
(Note: This is part of the turntable and as such does not come supplied with the arm if sold separately)

For Reference:
Like Rolex watches, these things hold their value and actually rise in retail price given the demand for them:
Price from new for this arm...you sitting down?
https://www.analogueseduction.net/tonearms/sme-series-v-tone-arm.html (https://www.analogueseduction.net/tonearms/sme-series-v-tone-arm.html)
£5,200

I hope the pics above show the condition of my arm, aside some dust its A+ (Will be gleaming shiny when it's sold https://theartofsound.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)
No blemishes or scratches to paintwork - perfect.
Only thing I'd mention is the tiny area of the magnesium finish that clips into the tonearm plastic rest bracket has a very slight "shine" to it where it clips in.
This is common to all SME magnesium arms and can't be seen unless your in bright light, really up close and specifically looking for it.
In other words it cant be seen in normal use, just wanted to mention it.

The V's recently been set up and serviced to perform its best on this particular turntable its mounted to, so that's a good thing.

My arm:
Like new, one previous owner (on high end Avid turntable...and traded back to Dealer he bought it from) with full tools, templates, SME paperwork etc.

I'm selling for £2300

FOR SALE: ITEM 3 - CARTRIDGE

Ok, final post of my 3 part Sale Thread.
I wanted a high end moving coil cartridge to maximise the performance of my Michell Turntable and SME V arm.
Selling on all my Vinyl playback kit, so up for sale is my Dynavector XX2 Mk2. (Serial No. 75588)

I never really got into playing vinyl the way I had thought on buying my setup, not played regularly so light hours on it.
I'd say the cartridge has roughly just under 200 hours on it.

Perfect condition, stylus regularly cleaned (dry-no solvents) when in use, the Turntable/Arm/Cart combination has been recently serviced by J7,
Cart and stylus given the A-OK.

My god I just checked the price of a new SME V. It really is £5,200!!!

I am shocked! And obviously living in the past:D

IMHO the Orbe platter is a big lift in Gyrodec sound quality. I have one tucked away somewhere;)

Nice deck for someone GLWS. Should go quickly...

A few years ago I invested heavily in a vinyl playback setup after, like a lot of us, many years away. Well done

Very quickly it became apparent that I wasn't playing it anywhere near as much as I should to justify the outlay, Gaz You need to allocate time in you shedual always reverting back to the convenience of Digital, albeit with reduced sound quality. Yes I agree
I've not been listening to vinyl much and frankly...given it's level of playback...the equipment not being used in my setup is a damn shame. Don't you just love the interaction with vinyl something to hold ,cherish , look after , care for , collect Read and be part of
The convenience of Digital has me trapped I guess. In more than one way , Hope you have plenty of back up drives etc etc

As such - I have decided to downsize my vinyl rig. NOOOOOOOOO :eek:
A bold move considering what I've invested in it, but honestly for the last few years it's only ever been an occasional listen for me. Again please make some time to use and appreciate what you have here , It's to DIE for

I'm not benefiting from this vinyl setup and want to pass it on to someone who will. If only

So...with regret and some wisdom gained...up for sale is what you see here. NOOOO , Think long and hard Gaz

I'm sorely tempted by the whole package, if my instinct is right, that this will blow away my Linn.

Is there an overall lid cover to keep dust out?

Are you confident about safe packing and a good courier, I do not have a car?

I see what you did there Al, but when I first saw it I thought "Yet another one leaving the vinyl frontier, what's going on?" The convenience of digital is undeniable, but is that enough to compel me to jump off the good ship Analogue and climb aboard SS Digital, piloted by God knows who?

GLWS Gaz, if I had the money, I'd snap it up even though I don't need another deck - I would simply keep it as a piece of "living art" :)

Hi Dennis,

The combination is known for working really well together, John Michell designed the turntable with an SME V so there's great synergy there.
The V's reputation speaks for itself really, sound is always subjective, but this deck has a long reputation, can say certainly the best I've heard.

Is it an LP12 you have, not heard one in years but I can say that this is the best turntable I've ever heard.
It's just that...I'm not as excited by vinyl the way I thought I would be, so the deck is wasted on me really.

Don't have an overall dust cover, had one before that covered the entire deck, as well as a stealthy one that sat on the platter and covered the arm, but I felt its a deck that needed to be shown off in my rack, so decided not to have one.
To keep playing surface dust free though, I use a Rega mat to keep dust off the platter and dust the deck most days, so it's not a problem.

Confident on shipping, absolutely.
Would be contacting Michell to supply me with original box packing before transit, so as safe as it could be.
I've bought and sold many bits of kit over the years, but happy though to have you arrange the Courier Dennis.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Gaz, my Linn is a very basic LP12, Valhalla with RB300 and Denon DL304, I presume yours will easily outperform that.

Opinions please.

Yeah,
it would beat your deck, no question. Sorry. :)

Its a top tier turntable - up there with the best imo.

Hi Gaz, my Linn is a very basic LP12, Valhalla with RB300 and Denon DL304, I presume yours will easily outperform that.

Recently visited a Linn dealer, who had an LP12 night with three of the latest machines..to be honest, I never liked the Linn tables, but on this night they where exceptionally good and with all genres of music. Saying that the system used to dem them was extreme high end. We went back to my pals and swithched his gear on and fired up his Michell Gryrodec SE... It is well ahead of the LP12's ..The Gyro dec was used with a Kontrapunkt B cart...a primare phono stage and an se version of a Musical Fidelity MS signature 35 wpc class A integrated...The speakers are Ruark Equinox..I went out and bought a Gyrodec SE and I haven't looked back...The machines my pal and I have are wonderful..I can only imagine how Good Gaz's TT is...He is meticulous with all his gear, no expense spared... so this deck will be something very special..

Hi Gaz, I have two preliminary aspects to resolve before further consideration.

My (homemade, and good), rack measures 50.5cm W, by 40.3cm D, the same plan dimensions as that of Sound Organisation stands.

Is this sufficiently large to accommodate your deck, and do you know if covers are available which will also rest within this?
(The cylindrical corner supporting legs protrude into that area, reducing it to 45.5cm by 35.5cm at the corners.)

Hi again Dennis,

The cover I last used on the deck kept it dust free, but didn't hide the turntable away, which I liked as it looks great on my rack.
Checked the dimensions and should be ok in your rack...assuming your sitting the deck on the top shelf?
Dimensions are 460 × 365 × 60 mm.

Doesn't completely cover the deck, but only leaves the outer edge of the motor unit uncovered - but it protects the platter and tonearm...I could live with that. :)
The traditional dustcovers for the Michell decks are really quite big, not sure one of the "fishtanks" would fit in your rack, unless its on the top shelf?

Dynavector XX2 Cartridge now sold.

Price reduction on Deck and SME V arm, £3400 (Collection preferred but happy to let buyer organise Courier at their cost)

The Arm is as close to "brand new" condition as a used arm could be: ZERO marks, dings or markings, and a new SME V retails for over five grand....For the arm alone.

The V had one previous owner before me, bought from brand new, and traded in to the same dealer he bought it from, whom I picked it up from.

This is the latest specification of the tonearm.

The turntable: A1 condition, Exactly as a an Orbe bar the power supply.
