View Full Version : Marantz cd 94 or cd80 ? Any input appreciated ...
Hi all, my beloved Be Yamamura, teac cards 10 has decided to start sulking ...
I was contemplating buying a marantz cd anyway, but now I have a difficult choice. I have the chance of both the CD 94 & the CD 80, both in excellent condition!!?!?
I have an Audionote OTO se , with Leema Acoustics Elements Phono, so any suggestions gratefully
accepted .
Cheers
David
That should of course read, teac vrds10 lol

If they're similarly priced then go for the 94. Although I'm basing that on my old mk2 which was a step up from the original.

You could look at Sony ES. The DAC chip doesn't matter that much in a CDP. However the output electronics do.
Many thanks guys, you have sort of followed my thinking,
I see what you mean about the dac there Tom.
Just discussing the possibility of replacement gearing ,and possibly an upgraded clock at the moment.

I have a CD94.
It will have to be prized from my cold, dead hands before I will ever part with it and when, a few years back, it gave all the appearance of having died, I was inconsolable (it hadn’t, fortunately).
Make if this what you will...

CD94 mk2 defo the one to go for. CD94 is nice, but the mk2 is a fair bit better. The belts go on these, but the lasers do last, though a replacement can be costly.
Like Adam I won't be parting with my 94.
I've got 54 and a 67SE. Warm and soft in the bass, creamy in the mids, bit of glitter on the highs. I'm not really keen on either but old jazz and blues does sound wonderful on them. Never heard an 80 or 94. Are they the same sort of character?

Good point on the belts - mine always seem to need changing!

Its a thing, had to change the belt on my Marantz CD7 twice as well.
My view CD94 probably one of the best CD transports ever . If you use the digital out then I feel sure you will not be dissapointed.

Oh you will see him selling fully restored vintage players on there regularly if you search out Marantz and Philips .... I believe he is Yorkshire based. Ive sold him stuff. Unless he is taking a break he usually has a selection of items for sale
