Is it time for The UK to give up on The Euro Vision Song Contest ?

UK last once again :D

I thought Denmark and Turkey were quite good.

So why are we so hated in Europe ? The UK song was a fair effort and our best in years....still rubbish mind you but a better class of rubbish than previous years.

Germany win and frankly the girl can't sing (can barely talk either) it was pish !


So should the UK just not bother any more ?

It was my choice to have it on. You never know when you might hear something new that's good.....not tonight though, bar Denmark; nice slice of melodic AOR, sort of ABBA meets Heart meets John Waite. There are some great European bands and singer song writers but we only get to see and hear the crap.

Gaze in wide-eyed wonder at the striking vista of assorted shite from across the boundaries of nations. Either bow your head in awe of the sheer depressing diversity of it all, or accept that we are inevitably doomed to revert to the previous arrangement of myriad tiny kingdoms drawn together only by an all-encompassing mutual enmity.

Looked at like that, Eurovision is quite compelling - like watching a train crash, but without the sense of pity.

Bearing in mind the economic situation, I think we should cease contributing funds to this shambles and let the rest of Europe get on with it. This country's enough of a laughing stock as it is IMO.

At least now we've recognised the shiteness, had a laugh at it with Wogan, and handed it over to Graham Norton, a sure indicator of low-level rubbishness. Unless you're a woman or a gay man, it's not for you. Just walk away.

Well, no. I'd say that that time was long gone and now, several decades further on, it's still completely specious to write a song for no other reason than to win a song contest. Almost without exception, it's been nothing but formulaic pap. Why should we expect or hope for it to get any better?

Somewhat offensive and negative stereotyping going on there Joe. I am neither a woman or Gay and yet I do watch Eurovision, as I said earlier in the hope that something good might turn up; it does occasionally you know, though not often.

Eurovision is on for more than three hours, and there's possibly a halfway decent song once every ten years or so (the only two that spring to mind are 'Waterloo' and that Katrina and the Waves song). It seems like a lot of pain for not much gain, unless you're just reveling in the sheer camp awfulness of it all.

You have to admit it was pretty damed femmy. I don't go to a gay parade hopeing something not so gay might turn up once in a blue moon.
If it looks like a musical with men in pink tights pranceing around with flowers in there hair,I don't stick around to see if they are going to do something not so gay,it's more likely theyll do something involving (SELF EDITED fill in the blanks),not probbable but more likely.

I don't think I could sit through an hour of that for one good preformance.

I always watch EuroVison. It gives me a chance to see how much better our fellow Europeans are musically:lol:. If it wasn't for the fact that our regular radio stations and music TV channels only dish up English singing tunes from the UK and the US, we would have been more culturally aware of songs in other languages.
It's a shame that other European participants seems to have to sing in English on the night.
