ive just taken the plunge into full range land!
i pick them up on saturday,im expecting a different sound to my yamaha's but from reading on the web the coral's are highly regarded, and being a cabinet maker i can always at some point knock up the bigger cabs for them,
these are in their orignal cabs,a bit rare in the uk i gather.
here's a stock pic of the drivers, drool drool! more pics to follow.
cheers for the info geoff!

well im back from a 6 hr round trip,

ive had a nose inside and drivers just shout quality, the cabinets however are your typical 70's chipboard veneer.

the drivers are in a cloth mesh bag hence the discoloured look, with the mesh removed they look sweet as!

and just for comparison with the yamaha ns1000's

and how do they sound?
well i was a little worried about the top end,i shouldn't have been as thats very good,in fact if anything they lack deep bass, whats there is very tight and well defined but i can now see simons comment about adding a sub and i can also appreciate why people make blh cabs for them.
the soundstage they create is very big,it extends well past the speakers width, something im not used to with the yamahas.
over all though im very pleased indeed with the sound,i dont know how out of use they have been so they may improve with use,ive also turned the drivers 180 degrees.

The drivers are gorgeous aren't they? I'd be surprised if there's another pair as good in the country.

Strange that the wiring was soldered to the back of the screw up terminals, probably done for reliability.

ha ha,
they sound very good, different to the yamahas, to me they sound a tad more natural, they do jazz extremley well,i doubt id say the same with heavy rock though

The cabinets are a compromise. They are too small to let those drivers 'breathe' properly. You have four options really, big floorstanding reflex boxes, acoustic column (not transmission line), the BLH of course and finally and possibly very effective, a quarter wave horn.

Is that a deconstructed woofer at the bottom, or a passive perhaps?

Chipboard is easy to denigrate, but it has a lower Q than MDF.

Both I'd say. Clearly the metal chassis has holes for magnet mounting, but presumably in this application used without as an ABR. An idea employed by many makers, KEF for instance.

its an arb,
regarding the chipboard im an ex cabinet maker so i was speaking from that point of view,in that realm its bollocks.

Wow they look great, first class condition. I’d agree with Geoff, get them in a horn, they will sound fantastic.

thats my plan,
i had a good 6 hour listening session yesterday and they really are lovely sounding drivers,as geoff and ali have pointed out they do need some bass lift, apart from that all is good.they are very musical and have an endearing quality to them that makes you want to keep on listening.
any concerns i had are gone and for now my ns1000's are in the bedroom,i never thought id say that!

Jamie, I have a nice pair of 10 inch Coral bass drivers which could work nicely with your Coral FR drivers to fill in the bottom end. Goes down to 28hz.

just a little update,i picked up a router table at the weekend so i can properly machine the new cabinets up,also ive bought the Dayton Audio DATS V2 software so i can measure the drivers and base the cabinets on those measurements,im getting some help from a couple of guys over at diyaudio as i dont have a clue yet what the measurements mean or what they relate to lol

A quarter wave would work well as it has with my Lii audio crystal 10 that are very coral like in looks.
