Xiang Sheng DAC-01A, brand new with original packaging etc, bought in May but only tried this once or twice, didn't like it in my system.
Cost £120 with £20 customs, will accept £130 posted UK only. Prefer paypal F&F. I'm in Sussex if you want to collect and pay cash.

sorry no idea, someone on here will know though.

It should if you move the internal links. But you won't want to go much above 65% if you use it this way. That is usually way louder than most will listen to.
Mine was used at about 40 tops.
So unless this is a different board and I doubt it very mu h, yes you can. I would advise upgrading the valve to a top quality one.. Best is the western electric version

Western Electric 396A valve sounds very good in this DAC :)

I know Grant disagrees but preamp mode drops SQ by quite an unreasonable amount.

However with the WE396A in it I can put it against a seriously expensive Lampizator DAC and I find it listenable.

That's a massive accolade I think. No it isn't as good but I am always impressed at just how good it is.

Thanks chaps. How easy is it to remove the jumpers?

Sent from my iPad using TapatalkIt's fiddly but doable. You will screw the SQ, though.

I wouldn't buy one just for it's pre. It's not good enough but if not stressed then it sounds very decent. Justin does like it loud [emoji23]

It does distort above about 65% volume on the preamp, as Grant says.

Also, I listen via some killer speakers and can hear a lot more than most mere mortals as a result.

Just because I can easily hear degradation in preamp mode doesn't mean others will.

Maybe this thread could be tidied up a bit...?

I personally think the truth is always better than hiding it.

It's a crazy good DAC for the price with limitations.

I strongly recommend it.

I strongly recommend it.I totally agree there should be transparency of opinions in sales threads as if only positive comments can be made it skews opinions to help the potential buyer to judge. However I've seen threads like this tidied up before and think there should be consistency. It's up to the OP at the end of the day.

Can anyone tell me if i can have this feeding into 2 amplifiers. I want to switch between them both as during the day I use my AV amp for background music and my Valve setup when sat down listening.
The DAC seems to have 2 audio out on the back (tube and normal) but i can't see on the front selector.

Thanks for any info!!

Yes you can Nathan. I use mine in exactly the same way that you are proposing. There is no switch as there is a constant/simultaneous signal from both outputs.
I use the valve one to my AV amp & the SS to my main system (valves). The synergy was better this way round in my set up.

yup as Richard says. I used both. one to main system and other to my actives.. could play both simultaneously..

Also on normal pres with two split outs you might find an degradation in output impedance but with the tube stage acting as a buffer this should let to better results (assuming you like the tube stage in this that is, and I know some people don't).

Can this be used as a pre? I just put my phono stage into the aux in and then out to quad 909 and I couldn't attenuate the signal.

Move the black jumpers in the pic below. If I remember it is both of them.

It is in the instructions for the DAC.

yup move jumpers shown. both... only have 2 positions so you cant go wrong...unplug it first;) as long as you dont go over 6 tenths it will sound fine

User211

2,3 to 1,2 and b,c to a,b to disambiguate and we know you can't get it wrong. Indeed that makes you know exactly where and what the jumpers are without any possibility of confusion.

Ha ha, well I used it once then packed it away, too sweet sounding for my system, I got a Topping dac 01 which I've yet to try, not really into this streaming business tbh, less hassle just putting a record on.
