View Full Version : Recommend me a quality cd player
As per title. Second hand not new. Budget max of £400 but preferably less.
Either single box or transport/dac.
Thanks.
Sony XB940QS. Should be under a ton. Plays SACD too.

Pioneer PD-S703 or similar should be around £50
Leaves room for a Beresford DAC

Anyone have opinions or experiences on Roksan CD players?

Not had any probs with mine but now you've said that it will probably fail!

A few years back I was shopping for an affordable but decent CD player for my daughter. After a lot of research I settled on the Marantz. I won’t swear to the model number but maybe a 4004?It was about $400 new. And from all the reviews I could find it had a higher reliability rate than most other brands. After I got it home, I did a side by side sound quality test against my Sony ES, and it was so similar it was hard to tell the difference. That’s been many years back, and it’s still working well. So, I’m sure you can find an even higher model Marantz used for £400, well worth consideration.

Recently bought a Marantz CD 6000SE KI Signature player for the 2nd system,
Loved the CD63 KI back in the day with my Pioneer A400 and Mission 760s, fancied a CD player again so picked a minty CD6000 OSE KI up here on AOS.
Stonkingly great sound quality, responds really well to good cables.
Highly recommended.

Marantz seems to get a shitty name .
Not sure why, since they pretty much invented CDP along with Phillips .
Sure Sonny had other thoughts......but that's history.
KEN ISHIWATA RULES.........LOVE 🙈🙉🙊
.
I've had (have) Marantz CD63 KI, CD 6000SE KI and SA7001 KI over the last 20 odd years, so yes, I do rather like Ken Ishiwata players. CD63 KI still my favourite I think.

I've got a minty CD67SE and a tidy CD54 stashed away. Prefer the Sony or Technics players though.

I've never heard the bass laden track " U2 - Love is blindness " portrayed with such aplomb.

Folk forget that Phillips acquired Marantz a donkey's age ago, so Marantz were also involved at the bleeding edge of things.
Phillips bought Marantz in 1980 so all the Marantz CD players were tweaked Phillips players.
i can recommend the sony x555es but most sony es models are good, check on the vintage knob site when checking out various models.
