Ortofon MC25FL is my de facto everyday MC with a great even balanced sound (though top end extension not up there with pricier MC's which is a good thing imo as cheap MC's with a over zealous top end are awful....)

Possibly now going up in price but could be found used at around £100 but who knows now.... Could I sell mine...? Hmmmmm.

RB 250 not the ideal arm for m/coils and certainly for low compliance ones. Not sure why, at that low price point, you're considering one when there are a lot of good m/magnets out there. Just my take, mind you !

Have to agree with Mike at that price point but a DENON DL160 MC with a high output is a consideration keeping down cost re' a step up or an MC phonostage if you don't have one.

I too regard the Ortofon MC25FL as a good 'everyday' MC cartridge. There is one for sale on eBay at the moment: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORTOFON-MC-25FL-MC-Cartridge/223561004964?hash=item340d4637a4:g:PaAAAOSwQTNdDfU Q, which may end up being within your budget.

The Rega RB250 is not a bad arm, and when used with the MC25FL the low frequency resonance will be around 8.3Hz.

Probably apocryphal, but rumour has it that Ortofon undercharged for the MC25FL and made a loss; which is why it was not long in production and is to this day a bargain.

Had one of the 25's too. Good cart but a good one might be more than a ton. Denon 160 has been out of production for a while but there is something really sweet about them, good trackers too.

Was just reading about an ortaphon Anna. Only 10k. Lol

I've just sold a modded Rega RB250 that I used for about six months with an AT 150 EA Metal bodied Moving Magnet and it worked very well indeed. I've used reasonably expensive MC's Dynavector 20X2L, Benz Micro's and several AT OC9's albeit on different arms but the 150 EA compared favourably. I'd also look at the Ortofon 2M range the black is a great cart and the added bonus of MM carts is the replaceable and in some cases like my current AT150 upgradeable stylus.

I've read the same and Ortofon probably did the same with the urushi lacquered Rondo range being well revered in Japan mounted on the Ortofon urushi lacquered headshell and titled Ortofon Wood.

I'm happily using an AO modded RB250 with a Lyra Helikon, fairly recently re-tipped, and it sound superb.
