Any one watch the final two parts (tonight) on the promise of answers.....
Well there were none, zero, zip, nada....just more confusion, questions and crap. The producers of this show really were taking the piss imho. All I can say is I am glad I didn't invest any time in it. From season one it frustrated me to the point of going :mental:. I dipped in and out but mostly out thankfully. What a waste of money, 6 seasons of pish. Not often you get to see pish piled high but if you watched Lost, well imho you have seen it; pish piled high.
What do you guys think ?

Never heard of it, Neil.... What's it about? :)

Couldn't Agree more... Had the exact same experience of the show... What a waste of what could have been a brilliant programme!
Did you watch the prissoner remake neil? I'm sure I read you did! I thought that was pretty good, and a much better way to do a story - over six episodes, not dragging it out and making it up as you go alone like abrams with lost

I didn't any of it Neil, but a friend of ours did who reported that he was captivated and intrigued at the start. However the captivation didn't last long and he gave up watching.
I found the same with 'Heros': I was gripped and intrigued from the beginning and watched it through to the unsatisfactory end of series one. Started watching series two, but it was hamstrung by the US writer's strike and I became annoyed with characters who had been killed-off in the first series, coming back to life through some pretext or another, so stopped watching. I made no attempt to watch the third series. Shame, it started out full of promise.
I'm probably the only one here who faithfully followed the re-make of 'The Prisoner'. It too ended as enigmatically as the original series; which I suppose it had to, but I would have liked to know quite why The Village had been set up and populated. Perhaps I ought to buy the DVDs and carefully watch it again.

Yes maybe it was you who said something about it...
I missed bits of it, frustratingly, but intend to buy the DVD ...
Was it not a place to create the ilusion of a different more perfect world where 2 and his misses could have childeren, and as they were solving their problem they thought they would solve the problems of others by also bringing them (sort of) into the world too ... That's what I picked up from the latter 2 rds of the last ep!?!

Hi Hamish
No I did not watch the Prisoner.
I just did not see the point of doing a remake of it. Now that's not to say I liked the original bar the opening titles and music brilliant rest :mental::scratch::eek::( Like Lost what was that all about
So I did not watch the remake....maybe I should have. No doubt it will be repeated.

Hi Barry
Yes Heroes started well and kind of went off the rails a bit and I did loose interest and stopped watching it regularly (the shifting time schedules didn't help either). Season three read like a poor man's X Men. Evil mutant gathers other Mutants to take on the world with a promise of utopia on Earth based in a fairground ummmm.... Magneto and the League of evil mutants anyone ?
Maybe season four will be better....we live in hope.
The remake of V on the Sci-Fi channels not bad....so far.

I heard a piece on Radio 4 the other day about how the endings of both 'Lost' & 'Life on Mars' were essentially the same.
With both of those programmes, I thought that the first series was reasonably interesting but they soon lost their attraction through becoming slightly 'forced' - a result of constantly having to reheat a cold recipe in an attempt to keep the interest up. I can't comment on the final episodes of either, but the conclusion on Radio 4 was that when they started out, they didn't have a clue where they were going, so the liklihood of having a damp squib ending was pretty high.
My conclusion? Another case of formulaic programme making & lazy writing.

Lazy writing for sure... How can you have a story like lost without knowing the ending when you start it? As soon as I found out that he didn't know the ending I lost interest. There was loads of speculation about what the ending was going to be on the Internet so
abrams said he didn't even know him self. That sealed it's fate as shot for me as it was obvious he was going to try and out wit the speculation and come up with some conveluted bull shit. Now it would be unfair for me to accuse ut of conveluted bull shit out right as I haven't seen it, but if a writer can't be arsed to think up a complete story line before starting writing then why should the views be expected to be bothered watching? Half the point of reading a book or watching a film/tv program for me is imaginig what might happen as I go along... Without that the story seems shallow!
And like I said... What a waste, it had so much potential in that first series! Loads of
interesting characters with back stories a huge budget, loads of unanswered questions... Followed by nonsense! I got all the way to the middle of the third series and I still didn't know what that black smoke stuff was...
The problem is, it's all about money! That first series must have made a fortune... I bet someone somewhere told abrams to drag it out for 5 more series for x amount of millions of dollars ... Quantity became the goal and so the quality went to shit!
Aparently that theater company that do the entire works of shakespear in 15 mins (or somthing like that) have done a version of lost... That might be worth a watch!

Here are *some* of the issues/questions for me.
1 The black smoke monster....who, what, where, when, why and How? As it became Lock why not ask it....to my knowledge no one ever did.
2 The origins of the Island.... What was the ancient civilisation that inhabited it ? Did they build invent the technology ?
3 Was the island sentient ? The suggestion was that the Island was like Pelucidar in The Land that time Forgot..i.e sentient, aware in some limited way.
4 What was the point/function of the time jumping?
5 What was the real role of the corporation on the Island ?...no one ever asked....to my knowledge.
6 What was the pushing the button crap all about ? Don't push it and everything ends.... Ends where the Island or the whole planet ?
7 How the heck did everyone end up back in the real world with no memory of the Island and their time there ?.....never explained.
8 Why did they have to go back to the Island ?
9 Where was the Island ? Was it the Bermuda Triangle? or similar.....
10 As the Others seemed to know a bit....why did no one ask them ?
11 As the Guardian of the Island seemed to know about it...Why not ask ? ...no one did. They drank the water and became like him.....In what way ?
12 Why did none of the characters ever ask questions about their situation when opportunities presented themselves ?
13 What was it with nuclear bombs on the Island ?
Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc......................................
I could go on but by typing this out I am both loosing the will to live and getting cross as none of these fundamental questions have ever been answered.
I could tell you what last night seemed (note I say seemed) to be suggesting about the whole show but I am curious to see what someone who saw it all thinks first.
Regards D S D L
Ahem....
Why don't you just switch off your TV and do something less boring instead? ;)

I remember the programme Marco & that piece of advice has stood me in good stead ever since. I never had any trouble living live with the TV switched off - I guess it comes from living long periods as a kid in foreign places where telephones were revolutionary & TV's were non existent.

Right, I had a chat with my tv series fanatic mate and his conclusion was that he really enjoyed 95% of the episodes - It was a really good program, episodes well shot, well made as well as being for the most part interesting and enthralling. But as a series, or set of series it was frustrating not to find many solutions and a bit daft

Except if I had spent 6 years watching it, every episode in hope of answers and some kind of sane resolution...I don't think I would be laughing.....something more like :steam::steam::steam::steam: :laser:
Regards D S D L
Well, I must declare that I loved it. I frequently laughed out loud at the twists and turns in the plot and the unanswered questions, but then it was telegraphed fairly early on that not all of the plot-lines were ever going to be answered fully. Lost was always about the story flow and greater arc rather than trying to resolve everything it revealed.
It helped if you were already used to JJ Abrams' writing style. I watched every episode of Alias (starring Jennifer Garner) and enjoyed it immensely, so I was already sensitised to his cliff-hanger and impossible-situation style of writing.
Then there were the production values (superb) and the acting (also generally superb). Not to mention Juliet . . . oh, Juliet. What I could say about her when she lit up the screen :)
So I found it great entertainment and looked forward to every episode. For me, it's up there with the all-time best dramas including West Wing, House, Battlestar Galactica and our very own Spooks.
Isn't it all explained as being purgatory (for the viewer at least) - I guessed that after the first episode.

That's the conclusion I came to in the last 15 minutes of the final episode. Has to be the most unsatisfactory end to a TV series ever (except for those I had been enjoying that got cancelled early), its also the biggest cop out ever too imho and depending on ones religious views a source of major theological debate and no doubt that debate would be very heated indeed.
So they all died during episode one and everything that followed was a dream while waiting in purgatory.

Yeah it was def where he was going with it in the first series ...a mate was telling me it's not the pergatory that I though it was going to be but another one, somewhere else...
Now I like donnie darko... It makes sence to me... At least for about 15 mins after i have watched it ... I'm not sure if the meaning I get is what is intended... Or if there is an intended meaning... I'm not sure I care... I like the film it's quite funny, it's shot stunningly, great soundtrack, there is loads to like about it... Most importantly it's a couple of hours long tops, so if you don't like the fact it doesn't make a lot of sence you haven't lost much more than a small bit of an evening!
What's lost - 150 hours? Thereabouts! ... ... ... I've said it before, it's such a waste of what potentially could have been really good!
We also only watched the first two episodes and gave up  Well just watched the last one on sky anytime, hmm, glad I didn't waste a lot more times watching the later episodes

I have watched the WHOLE thing, every single episode and have generally enjoyed it.
HOWEVER.... It was very disappointing to discover that ultimately 'The Island' was just a transitional 'limbo' where they had to go through whatever experiences where need to allow them to leave behind whatever issues/burdens they had in order to be able to pass over.
Wouldn't have been quite so bad if this hadn't occurred to me in about series 2 but I though 'na, it can't be that easy'
Er... actually yes it can.
Here are *some* of the issues/questions for me.
7 How the heck did everyone end up back in the real world with no memory of the Island and their time there ?.....never explained.

They weren't in the real world, they were in a 'waiting room' where they constructed a 'life' that appeased them while they waited for everybody to be ready to 'move on' to the other side. They were all dead. You know that right?
Can I add that no, they didn't die in ep 1, they died later. The island was real. What happened on the island was real. The off island scenes we were seeing in season 6 were the purgatory scenes. That's what the limbo was. That's where they went after they died.
Hurley and ben ran the island as 1 and 2, and outside the church, hurley said to ben, "you were a great no 2", and ben replied "and you were a great no 1". They both served out their time (however long that was) on the island, died, and moved on to the purgatory area.
