MSB S200

Had my msb s200 since 2013 , bought it from a msb dealer who used it for 3 months demo use . Its been superb and quite an upgrade from many amps . utterly quiet , 200 watts of lovely sound . its too heavy to get up to my attic room to use with my horns and too much junk there to accomodate it , hence the sale

its remote control , extremely reliable . UK sale only and prefer collection or possibly could deliver up to 75 miles . its 35 kg so 2 man lift .Birmingham

This power amp errs on the warm side with grip . always wanted to get a Arc ref 5se back to use with this but not to be at the moment. that combo would be magnificent . Its been used with mfa copper mark 2 , modwright 36.5 and 36.5dm and a number of other pre amps to great effect

It also has a built in suspension system so the legs are on spikes and inside is a suspension system so it has its own sort of Townshend isolation

Ok all the technical info you want will be on the relevant link but yet again i had the pleasure of an MSB amp in my system for a week. The unit is relatively compact and was easier to manouvre than the Plinius it replaced. I ran this amp with a Modwright LS36.5 Pre-amp , Whest PS30R Phono stage , Wadia 861 , Avid Acutus , SME V , Airtight PC1 and Kharma Ceramique 2.3 CE speakers . I ran the MSB in balanced mode for the whole week

Right it is relatively compact and once in situ loses some of its garish styling cues. One button operates on and standby . Placing my ear very close to the casework there was no audible transformer hum or any indication it was really on apart from the green LED light.

My reference recording for cd is Tori Amos " Little Earthquakes" . Its the sort of recording that can show up the limitations of solid state . There are plenty studio effects ,especially the use of reverb and extended decay on the high frequencies. This model had a few miles on the clock and its was apparent from the opening track we were in for a treat . The best way to describe what this amp does or ultimately doesn't do is to imagine a beautiful bright and vibrant landscape . In front of the landscape is some glass . Some glass can be dirtier than others with smudging and some glass can be really clean. With the MSB you wonder if the glass is even there. It gets out of the way of the music . The amp has no discernable sonic signature. Its the best i've heard bar the MSB monoblocs and runs them incredibly close . So close in fact that if you cold not afford the mono blocs this amp would take away any feeling you might have of being short changed. The power is effortless and the dynamics are so precise yet still retaining a very natural feel. So whats the downside . Well i only get a chance to listen at night and i have to get up and work during the day . It really was a struggle to get to bed at a decent hour. You start having converstions with yourself . If i get at least four hours sleep i'll be fine . It should be named an amp for insomniacs .Of course like most things it will not make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Bad recordings are bad recordings . Switching to vinyl it was evident that the low noise floor of the amp made badly pressed vinyl much more bearable and pristine vinyl a joy . Has it hit the groove yet in some cases.

The upside of all this transparency was the sheer detail that came through in any format you care to listen to. The amp that takes nothing away should be its slogan . Yet again you play stuff again and again just to make sure that little detail you hadn't really noticed was there. I don't expect the valve and horn brigade to be over enthused with an amplifier like this but any one who has solid state and wants to find out how far it can go without paying the exorbitant prices of other High End manufacturers should check MSB out . Writing a review of something that does nothing wrong is hard work. Often its easier to write lengthy reviews because an amp doesn't quite get it right in various areas. This amp just is right . Its faultless apart from one area. The way it looks will divide opnion but the newest incarnation is much more wife friedly than previous offerings and as i've said once at the bottom of the rack it really does lose some of its agressive styling and bling. To understand this amplifier go to your local dealer and bring along a copy of Talk Talk "Colour of Spring " in any format . You'll wonder what hit you .

Hifinutt is an enthusiastic upgrader and a lovely fella. I met him at a Melton domestic bale off at Fourlegs when we were doing a speaker test. I must admit to liking the styling!
Good luck with the sale mate and one question - lazy me hasnt read up abou this amp but what class is it? The extensive heatsinks suggest class A but the ability to drive a 2 ohm load suggests otherwise..

the blurb from msb says this

The S200 is a 200W stereo Amplifier built along the same design approach as our world renown M203 monoblocks. Never has so much Class A power been packed into such an amazingly compact and attractive design.

it does run fairly hot , you would not want much above it
