I looked at the OP and thought right I will get this. Meridian springs to mind initially as they threw everything at the basic building blocks. Im thinking when they first became drawer loaders Philips and Marantz had them

I’ll agree, after all it was the first commercially available CD player, complete with remote. As I recall it sold for $1200 US.

yeah I looked up the Sony 101 and Im a bit gutted because Im a Philips boy :)

It took Philips a while to include a remote. Meridian thew everything at the basic chassis and I would have thought they had a remote.
