View Full Version : My new foster dog
This is Blue, named by us.
I got a phone call from my wife, telling me about a dog that was being mistreated by its owner. As I will be back in Liverpool for 8 weeks very soon, I suggested that we could foster her, given there will be someone in the house all the time. She has a few cuts and bald patches, she has ingested large amounts of cannabis smoke and cowers at a raised voice but she has settled in. I suspect there will be no rush to rehome her, whatsoever, since she immediately occupied the step belonging to my beloved Bulldog, Bert, who died in August 2018.

Nice one Geoff, sounds as though she’s had a rough life, but from here on in i suspect she’ll have the best.

It breaks my heart to think of beautiful creatures, be they pets or wildlife, being abused and mistreated. Blue looks like a wonderful girl and she deserves the happy life you'll give her.

I love all animals and if I ever caught someone mistreating one I'd certainly intervene.. I reckon people that mistreat any animal just have no life of their own and they need to be strung up and also mistreated accordingly...

Lovely beastie, safe now, it's always the same, put a cushion/blanket down and they lie next to it:lol:,I envy you, after we lost Archie I suggested another rescue but wife says she can't do another loss, suggested a foster but again no, so I borrow the neighbourhood mutts and walk them(one at a time).

Always so hard when they go.
There was a time when we lost 3 in 9 months. Down to 1. I wondered if I could bear the loss of any more and thought about having none.
Took a different attitude.
We now only take on fully grown, usually old rescues and give them a good life.
Fostering is a good idea.
We know where that will end up of course

Top man. So many dogs out there need good homes.
We've rescued 2 English bulldogs in 13 years and it’s the best thing we ever did.

Good on you Geoff. Rescue animals is the way to go. Goodness knows there are enough of them to go around. All of our cats have been rescue cats, and it's been a joy giving them a stable home to live in. Blue looks a lovely girl.

Took her to the vet yesterday. She has gained a kilo in a week and has now been vaccinated. She behaved impeccably and is doing very well. Her coat is also much improved, her eyes are clear and she is walking well on the lead. Absolutely no negatives so far, only joy at the love we have been able to share for her as a family.
She looks so settled, you've done a great job.

It's very frightening for both human and hound.

I need to unsubscribe from this thread as there is too much of a risk me getting a dog. A neighbour says we could share walking, holidays etc. Even Mrs Westlower recently tried to convince me to get a dog. :)

As soon as you contact them they seem to view you with a lot of suspicion and constantly throw up any small reason as to why you shouldn't have a dog. We asked around and a lot of people have said the same thing.
Towards the end of last year our Golden Retriever died of a very aggressive bone cancer, she was only 2 years old. In a few weeks we will be getting a Cockerpoo. Not my choice I hasten to add but it will become part of the family none the less.

2 years. Poor thing. We were devastated to lose one of ours aged 7.

if folk get dogs out they lose some funding most likely. around here its easier adopting a sprog tbh.

If its good enough for me to live in surely its good enough for a dog :scratch:
animals have become a financial obligation now. Vets charge just what the want but pretty much any consultation fee starts at about 50 quid. Its just too easy for them.

My current pooch was given to me, her owner could no longer care for her properly due to mobilty issues.
The previous dog was found on Gumtree and came from a fosterer.

Yeah, seems like a more workable route to trying to do the right thing and help a dog in need. he deposit has already been paid on the new puppy and the wife is getting quite excited, so that ship has sailed. For next time though I should keep that in mind.

I don't like to leave ours alone but they spend most of their day sleeping !
An oldie would be fine and almost certainly not give a toss.
Agree if left alone all day and if only visited at lunchtimes every day

We moved to a recommended vet closer to home and were stunned by the prices they charged.
Checked with my mate's daughter who is a vet nurse. She was also stunned
Phoned around and found a very good vet only slightly further away that I would pay more for, but I'm paying a lot less.
Helps when you have 8

He is a female :D
She was 13kg 8 weeks ago. She is now 21.9kg. I know that her mum is 35kg and I would guess her dad is about 45 to 50kg so no, definitely not finished growing!

Hi Geoff,
I have 2 Staffies and the bitch was a rescue dog. Her owner was an apparent drug taker/dealer and he would have her on the lead and constantly kick her repeatedly. She was around 14-15 months when we got her. It took 6 months for her to stop wetting herself when you raised your voice. However she is now 11 years old and loved to bits. The dog is now 15 years old and he is still running around like a pup.
He caught her on her first heat, it was literally 10 seconds of turning our backs on them and they were tied. She had 11 healthy pups that were all house trained by the time they were 6-7 weeks old. My missus cried for every one of them as they went to new homes.
She is ginger and white and he is black, every pup was jet black, not one ginger one.
We had her spayed after the pups went as she was like a skeleton after bringing up 11 pups and I think it would have killed her if he caught her again.
They are the light in our lives, funny, protective and 110% unconditional love from them.
People who mistreat them should be whipped and I mean whipped properly.
Hope she gives you years of love and companionship.
What is a square head and why should you watch out for her.

Our Border Terrier, Florence, had 6 puppies 18 mths ago (planned) and we weren't exactly crying for the four that went to new homes after 8 weeks! Not that we didn't love them, but boy are they a lot of work, and at that age you need to spend more one-on-one time with them than you have. One new owner hasn't chosen to keep in touch but we have seen the other three since (we had a BBQ with 7 related Border Terriers earlier in the summer) and they have all grown into lovely dogs with great homes. We ended up keeping two puppies because we wanted another bitch (and there was only one) and one of the dogs had a malformed eye so we kept him too. BTW, don't ever have two from the same litter - our two are a right handful together.

Love borders. Sons one is near end of her life alas at nearly 12 and has breast cancer.
I had a boy and a great companion he was.
