Lost stereo imaging...can it be restored?

How many of you have had your speakers lose their ability to image properly? If you have, did you fix it?
The other thread I saw about stereo imaging made me think of a related experience I'd like to share but I want to hear others first.:)

If nothing has changed in the room itself and the wiring and related equipment are unchanged then I would guess there's problem in the HF region with one of the drive units.

Yup, the speakers. How about speakers that are not magnetically shielded?

That would not be a factor except for any poor old CR TV positioned next or near to them. Magnetic shielding allows for close positioning to a CR TV, Plasma and LCD are not affected by magnetic fields.

Sound quality is not affected by having shielding or not as far as I know.

I wish I knew more about magnetic circuits to say for sure..

If the speakers aren't faulty, make sure there's nothing in between them and if there has to be, as in my case, have the speakers slightly proud of what's in between rather than recessed behind.

Angling the speakers towards you will mean your ears get the direct sound first (unless it's an omni or semi-omni like 'briks, which spray their distortions all over the place :eyebrows: It's been suggested with DC Tannoys that they need to be OVER angled inwards for best imaging, but many I heard in past years were flat to the wall.

Are you sure you don't have an ear infection?

OK, this is what I was trying to get at and see if anyone else had experienced this:

I had a pair of speakers that seemed to have lost their imaging. I confirmed it by placing the speakers side by side next to each other and playing a monophonic source. Their imaging was shot. The ghost center was not resolvable at all.

A. The speakers were right next to each other.
B. They were not out of phase, all speaker connections were correct.
C. I was playing a monophonic source.
D. The speakers sounded fine, plenty of bass etc, just no imaging.

Given all the factors above, the center image should have been very strong. It wasn't. It was "lost."

So I hunted the net and found this product call Densen's Demagic CD. I bought it and played that tone thru those speakers and imaging was completely restored. I couldn't believe it.

I went and used Densen's Demagic on my car stereo and noticed that the bass tightened up significantly. I didn't notice an improvement in imaging as much. But then, in a car stereo environment, imaging takes a "back seat," so to speak.

I've owned the Demagic CD for a couple of years now and I play it every once in a while just to tune up my system.

I've have only heard its effect twice, though, in the scenarios described above. Despite that, I do believe it is doing its job and that those times I did hear it was due to the speakers being in such "bad" electromagnetic shape somehow.

The speakers which lost their imaging were not magnetically shielded and they did spend alot of time near (within 3 feet) of my 27 inch CRT TV.
