A few pics of Helens Sony HMK - 40 Music centre. Sony fitted the Garrard SP25 Mk4.

Bought in 1976 and owned in the family since then. It is used most weeks and sounds very good with vinyl. The competition with these type of Music centres was fierce in the 1970's so they had to be good. Sony did a very good job of this model as the bookshelf speakers sound particularly good.

Now fitted with the excellent AT95e cartridge.

I don't think the FGS would sound any different on this turntable.

Looks great James . We had a Panasonic music centre back in the day which looked very much like Helen's , wish we still had it :)

I also notice you've got mini reel-2-reel fitted as well!

Lovely! My Dad's was a late 70's Ferguson. Wasn't the best sounding thing, but played my first ever record on that.

The Sony sounds surprisingly good. They knew how to get a good sound out of vinyl for sure. The book shelf speakers are particularly good and would stack up well against any modern speaker around this size today.

The Gerrard SP25 MK4 was sold in their thousands and ended up in many system configurations as well as a stand alone unit. It is limited but set up just right it can sound good apart from the rumble of the rim drive/ bearing?
