First time poster saying hello here first because I know that's how this forum works ;)

Signed up mostly to say thanks for all the Caiman threads which helped me choose my dac. I listen to all my music through phones with my previous setup being Sony MDR v700s I bought for DJing about 10 years ago, and my sb Xfi. I remember when I first bought the Xfi I didn't expect much but all of a sudden music started actually sounding really good :)

Anyway, I was very content but had the niggle the the phones were really heavy and became uncomfortable after an hour or so. After a few years I decided to do a bit of research to see what else was about and whether the Xfi was still highly regarded. Turns out people had started using external dacs, my headphones weren't as highly regarded as I thought they would be, and that I could be missing out on so much more.

I don't like the idea of open back headphones so upgraded to some HD25s and bought a Caiman at the same time. I was loving the sound of the dacmagic since it compared favourably to the 7510, but then I saw reviews of the 7520 saying it was much improved, then saw that the dacmagic didn't have a headphone amp, then I saw the Caiman and didn't need to look any further.

Because I upgraded both phones and dac at the same time it's difficult to give too much praise to either component, but the jump was quite something. The bass in these phones is so deep, I never knew you could get this kind of sound through headphones. It's like you're not hearing it but feeling it, and all the time it's so clear and accurate, not just booming. I'm not a basshead by anymeans, but now I can at least understand why people might be :eyebrows:

Lets not stop there though, the whole sound is so much clearer, instruments are seperated, you can focus on a particular sound and just follow it around. Put simply I'm loving music even more than ever and having read all about the burn in I'm quite excited as to how this little box is going to develop!

First music I got into was dance music, explored loads of different genres of that and didn't listen to anything else for maybe 4 or 5 years. These days I still love all that stuff but don't look into finding new stuff anymore. Mostly listening to all kinds of rock at the moment, last batch of cds I got would probably be classed as prog rock but I really don't know enough about it all to pigeon hole it. Also love classic rock and am enjoying going back through all that again with the new setup.

Would like to sample some good classical music but I really don't know where to start with that one.

Also, local to you, just down the road in Wantage, work in Oxford. Small world I say!

Greetings Keith, fellow enlightened one! The Caiman is something else, isn't it? ( I get 0.3p from Stan every time I "big up" his products, so please excuse the fact that I always do (JOKE - by the way! - it's only 0.2p! ;) )

Really interesting to see your music choice diversifying - I can never understand why people pigeon-hole themselves into a particular genre or time period - cutting your nose off to spite your face I say (but each to their own, so no offence to anyone, especially those that might share a passion for prog... ;) ) I'm a massive dance fan, though that in itself is a whole conglomerate of different styles - I tend to "specialise" in chillout/downtempo/ambient, trance & house though anything could light my fire from Jazz to Metal - I always say if it is good, it's good - and yes, that does include some sh!t most people wouldn't even dream of playing on their hi-fi! (really, sh!t is an understatement for most of it!)

Well, enjoy AoS, there is a great crowd here, and those that don't "play well with others" don't stick around for long, so pull up a chair, put a log on the fire and join in - we love meeting new people.
