Been using this on my tv system to good advantage but the wife has taken
a dislike to the floor space it takes up!
Would love to use it in my main system but all my cables are u.s. connectors
running from a Shunyata Hydra and in any case I’m pushed for space as it is.
..................... is about 8-9 years old and in excellent condition. I’m the
second owner. Last owner bought it new from Angel Sound Audio.. and it’s had a service in the interim.
It is a................................................. .......................................
Lots of good reviews on the net
A few marks as opposed to scratches on the top.
As can be seen from the photo's it has four UK outlets.
Dubious about shipping, the packing is fairly bombproof but it weighs a ton and
as my bathroom scales are kaput, no way of weighing it.
Everything functions as it should and batteries are healthy.
Box states Shuckos, no idea why
............................ comes with Double Box and original manuals.
I’m in Fife, Central Scotland.

As an aside, I've faffed about with numerous hosting sites in the last month since I got a roasting for being a lazy b'stard for posting this with thumbnails.
God forbid, I just posted an ad as I had done for years WITHOUT READING THE RULES!
So if these are not Gallery Standard Images, I give up, it was this size, football pitch size or not at all.
Maybe some of the folks writing the rules could do with a course in tact and charm before suggesting we are lazy chancers?
Some of us have other things going on in our lives!

Pardon me, but is this (perfectly polite request/message), which I posted on your sales ad, for failing to comply with the new rules on pictures, the "roasting" you're referring to: https://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?64131-***-Non-Compliant-Advert-***&p=1084363#post1084363

If so, then firstly, a "roasting" it is not. Secondly, and because of that, your hissy fit above is completely unwarranted! Who on earth do you think you are??

Thirdly, and most importantly, AoS does not exist for the sole purpose of you advertising (for free) your unwanted equipment, especially as you have made zero contribution to the site's running costs, yet despite that, think you're entitled to moan like a girl, simply because you're being made to follow some simple rules, which others manage perfectly well, despite I'm sure being just as busy!!!

So, I'd suggest it is *you* who needs a "lesson", but one in manners: namely to feel bloody grateful for being able to use a platform such as this for FREE, to advertise your gear, and not be so bloody lazy and selfish, as to begrudge taking the time to post some proper pictures, the same as everyone else.

There.... *NOW* you have been given a (well deserved) "roasting", and if you don't apologise for your ridiculous rant and promise to read and comply with the rules in future, then not only will your ad be pulled, but your membership. You've got a bloody cheek, Simon, you really have:doh::rolleyes:

C'mon Simon,
You've got free advertising of your kit to like minded people, (audiophiles), and you spit the dummy out because the rules don't suit you. We've all got to adhere to the rules, you aren't being picked on and most certainly did NOT get a "roasting". If you aren't happy with the rules that apply to everyone, pay commission and sell through other markets. I think you want to give it a bit thought before you rant your rage against moderators that put up with a lot. And I'm not sucking up, I will call a spade a spade, if I think I'm right. Cheers anyway Simon......and bloody calm down dude.

Ignoring the etiquette and rule breach, it is obvious that any potential buyer will want to know the condition, which necessitates the best pics possible, and the price being asked - this is a universal requirement.

I two years ago built up a racing bike (vintage equipment from the turn of the century), and bought what must have been several hundred parts from all over the world using Ebay. I had only two problems, both within the UK, one with poor pictures obscuring the condition, and another regarding corroded-solid parts.

The poor picture one I just accepted even though it was not really good enough behaviour on the part of the seller.
The other seller was brilliant and offered a substantial refund to purchase the corroded parts new.

Every other seller, and from all over the world was really brilliant and honest, always acknowledging my requests, providing information and pictures as required, and IMO these experiences are far better than those in general with supposedly bona-fide retailers. I'm baffled at the apparent lack of consideration being shown here.

RobbieGong
31-05-2019, 17:41
Good pics speak volumes as far as I'm concerned, even tells me something about the 'attitude' of the seller.

I'm drawn to good pictures of an item for sale, I can see exactly what I'm getting and tells me the seller is bothered, not sloppy and doesn't appear to have anything to hide - all reassuring which is key in this game.

When selling I treat potential buyers the same way I want to be treated with regard to any potential purchase.

If it's all a bit 'meh' in presentation and description, I tend to look elsewhere

This all seems a bit harsh fellas with talk of banning etc.

There are rules for selling which ideally everyone reads before posting :) If a post is made and it doesn't comply, one of the mods usually points out that there is no photo, price or location etc and if it is not updated it will be removed. Sounds perfectly fair and reasonable to me, why the witch hunt on this occasion?

I think it's the "hissy fit" Bill, and the fact that Simon claimed he had a "roasting" before which was then shown to be nothing of the sort! And if indeed he did get a "roasting" for not complying, why then did he do it again?

As Marco has pointed out, adverts here are free, it is just good manners to comply with some very basic rules which makes it work for everyone and if anyone is having problems with posting images ask a mod and we'll help - no need to throw your toys out of the pram!

Because they got upset he answered back lol, got to admit, its the best thread on here for a while though for entertainment value anyway.

I agree with you though.

Still, wouldnt be too difficult to have an upload tool to be hosted by the site server and would obviously solve some of these issues, as remote file hosting can be confusing and difficult to use for some, especially more elderly folk.

Yes its sufficient, as per DPA 2018.

I get called M if you want to phrase it differently, or Em, so it's my name.

If you want me can go through all the profiles using shortened versions of their christened names (which I don't adhere to not being religious), maybe that can be the new crusade like the classifieds one lol?

That's a minimum requirement. It isn't the rules of this site. Here you put up a name. Doesn't have to be your real name, no-one's going to check. It can be a nickname, likewise. The reason is nothing to do with the DPA or otherwise it is to facilitate social interaction. 'M' is just a bit too anonymous. 'Em' would be okay.

Well. consider yourself out for a month for persistently being a dick. In that respect, you've been watched for a while, but enough is enough. AoS does not exist for your personal entertainment! FFS, you really don't know when to STFU:doh:

Enjoy your holiday, and if you do return after that, it'll be on the strict understanding that you refrain from such behaviour in future.

Lol, so M being a shortened version of my actual real name is NOT ok, but FRED is OK to put? Ok! Will do that, for you.

But FRED is not your name: according to your AoS profile, your name is " Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff ".

Marco

Lol, so M being a shortened version of my actual real name is NOT ok, but FRED is OK to put? Ok! Will do that, for you.

Just to answer this, as it's a point worth making, in terms of the use here of proper first names (whether real or not).... Well, if you'd put "Fred" on your profile to start with, as Martin says, no-one would've questioned it, as we'd have been none the wiser, and so you wouldn't have found yourself in this position now. Simples!

Again like Martin says, it's about facilitating credible social interaction, and which isn't best served by referring to someone as 'M', or 'XLMTZ444067', etc... Do your friends or family call you 'M'? Given that you're currently banned, that question of course is rhetorical.

If not, then it's unacceptable for anyone here to do so. Therefore, in future you'll addressed here by the same name, as others address you in real life; either that or you can invent something that's more acceptable than 'M'.

Would 'Michael', which appears to be the name you registered with, be what the "M' stands for? If so, that's what will be used in future, once your ban expires. No need to be shy!;)

Indeed, which is why anyone who feels the need to 'hide' stuff like that isn't really suited to being a member of our community.

I've never liked 'hiders' or folks who seek to be devious. You should always be 100% honest and upfront about who you are and where you come from, which is why in over 20 years of posting on forums, I've always done so under my real name and location!

Marco.

Marco

I can't understand why this amount of effort has been used on this ad, just pull the bloody thing

We took the decision to make an example of behaviour that's unacceptable, and to highlight the need for proper-sized pictures with sales of all equipment over £250. Therefore, the more folks who read this thread, the more that requirement will be publicised, and hopefully non-compliant ads will be reduced or eliminated.

To be brutally honest, Andy, I don't care how many folk we have to suspend or ban, in order for that message to sink in. At the end of the day, we're only interested in having the right people here, not simply any bugger who thinks that he or she is entitled to do what they like, regardless... There's too much evidence of that selfish 'me first at all costs' thinking these days, and we simply won't have it here.

One way or another, selfish/inconsiderate and/or lazy folk must learn that the world doesn't owe them anything, and that sometimes in life certain standards of behaviour are necessary and rules observed, in order to receive certain privileges, one of which is advertising here as often as you like, free of charge!

<End of member information service> Thank you :)

Marco
31-05-2019, 21:49
Not so much "gobby", Brian. Within reason, people are entitled to express their opinions. Although some folk (such as 'M') don't seem to know when to STFU, and get some kind of twisted pleasure out of acting like a tit. That kind of behaviour belongs in primary school.

It was more the OP's hissy fit, over being supposedly "roasted" for not having observed the rules, which as proved, simply didn't happen!

So he needs to 'man up', retract that statement and make the necessary amends, which any reasonable person would do, as we can all have off days and say things we regret. And ignoring matters won't make the problem go away either, which is why a time limit has been set for any response, after which appropriate action will be taken.

As so may people appear to have problems achieving what is a very simple task, I'd thought I'd add my brief guide on how to do it using a free service. It's not all step by step, but more of an explanation as to the concept. It's a similar process whatever hosting service you use.

To those that say it's too difficult; well, come on, really? We all use PCs and the like in our daily jobs/activities and we should all have at least a basic understanding of what's going on. If not, get yourself down to a local basic computer course; loads around and an essential ability for 21st century living, IMO. Rant over, let's get on with it.

Firstly, to answer the question as to why can't I just attach an image to a post? If that were to be allowed, it means that there would be uploads to the server that AOS uses. These uploads would be large files. Picture files are much, much larger than pure text. If the server has to process and 'serve' these files then additional 'bandwidth' is needed. Plus the amount of hard disk storage space required is vastly increased. Both of these things cost a deal of money. This forum isn't exactly a serious profit centre, so who would pay for that? Plus, why pay for that when you can achieve the same result for zero additional cost to Marco.

That method is to upload your pictures to a 'host' service. That is a service that is dedicated to storing images and then disseminating those images elsewhere. This sharing is done by a special code. This code tells a browser where to look for a specific file. There are different codes for different methods of sharing.

I use postimage.org. Others are available. With postimage on the home page there is a central choice using drop down menus. Create an account.

In the top right of the home page is a 'My Images' link. Click on that.

On the next page there is, at the top, a field to enter the name of your new gallery (Naim, amp, whatever)

Enter your chosen gallery name and click on 'create a new gallery'

In the resizing drop down choose 640x480 (for message boards).

Then choose how long you want the images to be available in the drop down menu below above.

Then click on 'choose images'

Select where you have the image (it's easiest if you have the image on the computer you are using to upload)

You can select multiple images using the method that you would normally use to select multiple files.

Images are now uploaded.

Now you need the code to share those images.

There are a few ways to do the next bit, but the easiest is to click on 'My Images' again and select the gallery you have just created.

When you do that you will see a button above your images which says 'share'. Click on that.

You will then see a line of text which says "codes for all images". Click on the drop down menu adjacent to that. Select 'hotlink for forums', NOT any of the other options.

In the next adjacent drop down select "one column"

There is a further adjacent button. Click on that. This automatically copies the correct link to your clipboard.

Go to your post and 'paste' that link.

Job done.

Pat on back at another of life's small challenges met.

The above sounds complicated but it is really simple. Do it a few times and you'll wonder why on earth you couldn't crack it years ago.

Good stuff, guys. All useful info, and as Simon says, it's really much ado about nothing:)

The important message, however, is that if you are struggling with the process of posting pictures, then ASK FOR HELP, as there will always be someone on hand to do so!

Just giving up, or being too lazy to even ask, or worse, posting an ad with either no pictures or unsuitable ones, is only going to have one outcome.

I accept fully the point about the elderly, but wish to make some points from my stance, and have a little rant.

I am not stupid, and have had a 55 year in telecoms and electronics, and have not lost the ability to learn, but my last formal education was in '87.

When one retires, the source of incoming information is vastly reduced, and much of it amounts to hearsay, this often expressed rather poorly and even incomprehensibly.

So one is often in a sea of self appointed 'experts', many with no foundation in the fast changing technology, but brimming with self confidence now that PC has told us we are all equally valid, and from my own experience are often rather inept even at logic and scientific method, my finding frequently that I am more able than they in a given problematic situation.

But what they do have is current, or at least recent, familiarity with things because they are doing it all the time, whereas I am only involved when something is wrong or needs attention, my purpose being to use the technology for my life aims, not to be swamped in its infinite architectures, virtual block schematics, and concepts expressed within its own language.
I am then often treated as though I'm a numpty by them.

The intrinsic and increasing complexity of ICT is obvious, and if you love it then fine, but to me it is a tool, much like my kitchen knife, about which I do not want to know the metal alloys of the blade, the age of the wooden handle or its source, or the glue used to affix the two.

The lack of ability to express clearly and succinctly a working set of instructions is apparent and ubiquitous, as is the decline in quality of the English language; remember the laughed at Japanese instructions appearing in the 70s.
(Well now it's got a whole bunch worse don't it).

This applies very often with those who come to my home and chat; I feel like Alan Turing in trying to decipher the Enigma, to understand what may people are saying, they often mumbling and with a hand passing over their mouths.
I call ,one of them a 'Join the dots puzzle', but with only one dot.

This, my supposed decline of our language, is also very apparent on media, and even on R4 our supposed reference of intelligibility and intellectual accuracy.

In addition, the technology, with its high youth-geek I/P, has evolved its own language and culture.
Until last week I had never heard of "Pwning", but now see and realise to some extent the degree to which this is going on.

Try googling "Have I been pwned" and see if you have.

I don't understand why folks find it hard to post pictures.

Create an IMGUR account. Put picture up. Click picture and copy BBcode and then paste here. How hard is that?

I don't understand why folks find it hard to build their own house.

You just keep piling bricks till you have the required height, then stick a roof on. Job done. How hard is that?

I just had a go at Tapatalk. After seeing a lot of Google entries (which one for chrissakes?) I picked one and I may have signed up - not certain, but I provided a username, email address and password to something/someone, and told them I wasn't a robot. Then what? Tried various things, ended up on a page which seemed to be selling iPhones. Not sure if it thinks I want to send pics to a forum, or whether I'm a forum owner.

Everything is simple or at least learnable if you understand the basics. Otherwise it's tough titty. I started out in a good mood, now the lounge window is in danger of receiving a laptop-shaped hole :(

Maybe I'll look out for a "how to do specific tasks on your computer" course in the autumn if I find myself with some spare time and money.

Incidentally I was inclined to think the OP was treated a little harshly but had a rather stressful attempt to purchase something on another forum which has led me to agree with the point Marco made about courtesy and taking the time to describe items well. There was little attempt to describe it but as the seller had 1000+ posts thought it was ok. Waited a day for an answer to a reasonable question then sent the money to secure and said in the highly unlikely event I've misunderstood the (very short) description then please send it back. Waited 3 days and chased then got a message back saying send your address, no returns. At this point I asked for a photo and where it had been purchased given it was sealed box and I didn't know what condition the item could be in. Then I got back, fed up with your questions give me your paypal for refund. So I did. A day later get message send request for funds. Explained this only worked for goods and services and had fees. Then get a refund marked "timewaster". Yeah right.

The OP in question here could've been anyone, Lawrence, as it had been my intention for a while to highlight the requirement for posting not only decent pictures with ads, but decent ads, all round, which are both well-written and contain all the required information! Simon's hissy fit, however, and fantasy recollection of events, regarding the "roasting" he'd received previously, simply made that choice easier;)

Because Simon aside, as you've just highlighted and sadly found to your cost, you can bet your boots that the lazy wanker of a seller, who simply can't be bothered to construct a decent advert [and who's evasive, unhelpful and just wants paid with the minimum of effort], will be the same lazy wanker who turns out to be a nightmare to deal with, in the event of any transaction........

Some folk simply don't get it... AoS isn't, nor ever will be, a 'catch all' forum, where anyone gets in and behaves how they like, and where there is little control imposed upon what is acceptable and what isn't. We're fussy about who we want here, so you have 'get' what AoS is about, prove yourself a little as a person, and try and fit in with the community we've created, based on those fundamental principles.

Therefore, the driving force behind us making an example of this advert, was to weed out the lazy wankers, the take-take takers of this world, and maximise the quality of both the ads posted here and the people who've constructed them. We want give-give givers here instead, who embrace the concept of a structured online community, where the onus is on helping each other, not just ourselves.

It's no coincidence therefore, that I receive PMs regularly from people, both members of the trade and private individuals, telling me what a breath of fresh air our classifieds sections are, and that there is far less time-wasters and idiots there, acting as both buyers and sellers, compared with that on some other forums, and although it requires more effort to place ads on AoS, the rewards are worth it!

Therefore mate, *that* is why we do what we do, and our classifieds section is one of the busiest and most vibrant of any of the online audio forums:cool:

A good ethos Marco, shame more in society are not sharing it.

Marco
01-06-2019, 14:04
Cheers, Dennis, and as you know I always enjoy reading your contributions.

AoS is largely a mirror image of my version of now society should be, and indeed what I'm used to experiencing and enjoy in my daily life [old-fashioned values and the company of happy, considerate and friendly people], which is why I seek the same here, and along with the help of others, have created a community around it.

I simply refuse to entertain or showcase the worst traits of modern living, as most of it is alien to me, or allow the eternal malcontents and 'fun sponges' to suck the joy out of life. There's plenty of time to be depressed or angry when you're dead!

Therefore, whoever wants to join us on that basis, isn't all out for themselves, embraces our ethos and sees this place as a haven from the rat race, is most welcome, and indeed should find the experience rewarding. The rest, I simply couldn't give two hoots about:)

It is hard in an ever changing society to keep the best of the past whilst accepting the new, after evaluating it for merit of course, and vitally, to be able to know the difference.

I am a member of one other audio site, which has now become a general 'friendship and discussion' site for which we pay a 'nominal' sum to support. (It was the AVI site, and run by an AVI employee/shareholder).

Some bullying went on from a classical middle class public school originating member, who now it has changed hands, has no authority, but his deeply embedded traits are still to be seen in his posts, and which IMO are bigoted, biased, and prejudiced.

Apparently, everything he believes is true, and his views are the only right ones, all others being conspiracies, usually of the left.

Some people are so embedded in a culture, that they cannot see beyond their inherent biases, (and I think we all internalise some in our formative years), but we have to if we seek maturity, learn to see past them and deal with them by accepting that there is validity to the views of others, and failings in our own..

This is what I have written there:

"I do not, unlike the well documented tendency of PhD studiers look for, and see, only the information which supports my suppositions and biases and conjectures.

We have to see beyond what may give us comfort by reinforcing our sense of identity, and if we do not, we become fixed and unresponsive to changes in external reality. "

Wow, that put the Cat amongst the Pigeons. Only just looked at this as selling someone something useful at a fraction of retail isn’t high on my Agenda. Painting fences, looking after the Grandkids, cleaning the cars etc, etc.
Looked at Marco’s message, pleasant and justified and thought an apology and considered reply.
Tea cooked, stereo on.. looked on here , wasted valuable time reading all the erudite comments.
First post deleted, looked at the New Rules, forgive me if it seemed as welcoming as the Prison. Gov’s. lecture to Fred West on the first day!
For a repeat and consistent offenders possibly, for a newcomer, friendly people on here? Have read and tell me I’m wrong.
Posted for years, let me put the thumbnails.
Ok, tried umpteen free hosting sites for weeks, bad day, frustration, still lurking from my ad for free mags and mags for a charity donation being binned, but hey, rules is rules, more Landfill. Not enough imagination around to picture a pile of free hi-fi mags.
No price, copy and paste error, too wee pics anyway probably, enough time wasted.
Looked at these posts, Hannibal Lecter must have got nicer replies.
Inane diatribes, utter pish from would be mind analysts about my attitude,
Really not worth the trouble of being specific, well apart from the wee prick from the other end of the Kingdom, ”I’d have been interested bar for your attitude” – so you planned to drive up and pick it up or did you just fail to read the advert you sanctimonious little prick!
Wonder if all these keyboard warrior would be as ‘gobby’ in the flesh.
For anyone remotely interested, I bought and sold hifi around the Globe for 20 odd years, hundreds of perfect feedback on Audiogon and Ebay.
Do I need personal insults and vitriol from strangers who seem to relish being back in High School over the head of an ad?
I’ll desist from lowering the tone by suggesting what springs to mind..
Let’s just say Bon Voyage and Adios

Ok, Simon, first of all thanks for responding within the timescale set, and for (as highlighted) acknowledging that my message was pleasant and justified, which of course it was. However, you then go onto use invective, by referring to someone as a "sanctimonious little prick", which spoils the whole thing. That's unacceptable, as we don't use that sort of language to address each other here.

I can't be bothered scrolling back to find out who/what you're referring to, which has prompted that response, so I can judge the matter. Therefore, how about quoting the post in question and we can look at it and see whether there are any justifiable grounds for you feeling that way?

In terms of the matter of free mags for a charity donation, I'm completely unaware of that, so again could you please link me to the thread in question, so I can read what happened and make a decision on whether how you were treated was acceptable or not?

Basically, I'm trying to be as fair with you as possible, as I think you're a decent enough bloke at heart and would hate us to part company without first at least having tried to see if we can reach some common ground, so the ball's now in your court:)

Well, Mike (and Andy), we'll just have to [grossly] agree to disagree, and given the feedback there's been so far, your views are firmly in the minority.

This thread has served a very useful purpose, which was to flag up/advertise/allow to sink in the necessity not only for reading the rules, but acting on them, so if the discussion had been conducted via PM, that would not have happened.

Therefore, if we get less non-compliant ads now, with proper pictures posted, as a result, and Simon reconsiders his actions, then the thread will have more than served its purpose. Quite simply, if you want to be here, then you observe the rules and like it.

TBH, the fuss that's been created over performing what was a patently simple task, and which 95% of the membership manage without a problem, has been what's sad:doh: So hopefully some lessons have been learned! Importantly, the OP found what I'd written perfectly reasonable, which proves that it was justifiable. It was some comments from others he objected to.

Anyway, I agree that the thread has now run its course, and if Simon wishes to continue the discussion, he can do so via PM.

Marco.

Hi David,

Whilst I appreciate you having difficulty posting pics and not being long on the Internet, you're missing a few key points, and also somewhat rewriting history, so here are the facts...

As you correctly say, Simon has been a member here for sometime, and therefore long enough to have read the rules on posting pictures, so he should've did that and acted upon them, but instead didn't, and used inappropriate thumbnail-sized pictures on his ad. For that reason, his ad was taken down and he was asked (very politely I may add) to redo it using proper-sized pictures, at which point it would've been reactivated.

All perfectly fair and reasonable, I would have thought!

Instead however, he chose to take umbrage at his ad having been legitimately taken down, and if you scroll back and read his reaction, completely (and unjustifiably) went 'off on one', which he has since admitted was due to the fact that he was having a bad day. Fair enough, as we all get them.

Therefore, what he should have done instead of losing the plot like that, was ASKED FOR HELP, or as has been done many times before, PM'd either one of the mods or myself, and asked us to post the pictures on his behalf. We've helped many people that way in the past, and had Simon did that, it wouldn't have been a problem, and crucially, we wouldn't have found ourselves in this position now.

Slack is always given here to those who act reasonably enough to receive it, and so unfortunately it was Simon's OTT reaction, to a politely worded and simple request, which has subsequently created this situation, so I decided to make an example of his unacceptable behaviour, in order to deter others from doing the same in future. That's my decision, which as forum owner I'm perfectly entitled to make, and therefore others should respect it.

So the important lessons to be learned in future are:

1) READ THE RULES BEFORE POSTING ADS, AND ENSURE THAT THEY ARE 100% COMPLIANT.
2) IF YOU'RE HAVING PROBLEMS POSTING PICTURES, THEN ASK FOR ASSISTANCE.

Don't moan because you've been made to put in some effort, in order to advertise here for FREE, to potentially tens of thousands of buyers, and instead be grateful that you've been given the privilege in the first place!! :exactly:

Marco.
