I couldn’t find the huge grin emoji .[emoji16]
I’ll knock up a plinth once I know the correct sizes of the timber used.

How do they sound Andy?

Filling the room with a velvet like bass that I’m loving Geoff , it’s like the sound is also coming from behind at times .
Very happy

Once you raise them a bit you should find the imaging and depth amazing.

Any idea of the size of wood I should use Geoff ? Same as the Cheviot?
2x1 ?

I do have the MAF stands but I discounted those as they’d surely be too high

You want the tweeter in the centre of the drivers at or just below ear height if possible (when you are seated in your listening position obviously :)).

For my Cheviots I just made box like stands about 8 inches high from 18mm MDF. It worked fine.

Nice speakers Andy

What are the marks on the black part of the inner woofer?

I would make the plynths the same or only slightly bigger than the cabs themselves to avoid an even bigger footprint on your floor space.

I cut up an old solid wood table to go under mine and bought some brass cone spikes to go through my carpet.

That's just light reflecting from the gauze dome dustcap.

Hi Paul, what looks like marks is just the reflection from the camera flash ( the dust cap is a very fine mesh )

Cheers

I have never, ever had a HiFi itch that needed scratching until reasonably recently and it's Tannoy speakers. For some reason I just want to try some. It's been a bit of a "they're too big" battle for a while but I think my cardboard cutout has worn her down..... Seeing pictures like this doesn't help :-)

Oh boy they are very very enjoyable.

I don't want this to descend into a "which one is better" debate as I'm still quite a way away from doing anything but at the moment my sights are on Stirling GRs being the most likely fit....

Nor mine really, that's why I'm still a way away lol

I should add I've seen the recent ones for sale on here and if I thought i could get away with physically bigger I would have done by now....

My money's on the SRM's sounding better than the Stirling GR!

As good as any and easy to cut, cover, paint. Is it a double layer sandwiched with feet?

No just a basic frame design 400mm x 200mm x 100mm braced in the corners, and a can of black satin spray paint. I might yet cover the plinth in black leatherette ( or is that too trashy ? )

Not to me it doesn't in fact I bet it will look like a custom made plynth that a known brand would sell for silly money hoping the minions will bite.

We dont do that here or if we do we only do it once :)

My comment wasn't a "which is better SRM or GR?". It was more along the lines of physically that's all I can get away with irrespective of any other option being better.......

I've heard several different Tannoys and could live with any of the ones I heard. Even my mates modern slim Tannoys' don't remember the model, were surprisingly good.

On the same lines as Flatscreen TVs; you need to relate the size to the room.
Lusting after......Klipschorns, say.....is no use if you only have a 10 X 14 foot room?

These are something special.
