When ever i've taken a piece of equipment in for repair to my local hi-fi shop, threy have engineer do the work, i've always argued that i want the company who built the product service or repair the item not the shops electronics engineer! Can you demand it sent back to the manufacturer if out of waranty?
I ask as i plan buying a Rega CDP but i'm wanting a new lazer mech fitting reagrdless of if the one i buy has a working one or not, it's just peace of mind knowing it's gonna last a lot longer but insist on Rega doing the work..

contact rega your self...
i imagine smaller companies like rega do that sort of thing them selves?
bigger companies usually have repair agents, we use http://www.goggleboxtv.co.uk/ for most of our shop hifi repairs, but we mostly only get things like sony or panasonic etc who tell us to use agents like gogglebox.... sony have a service centre in pencoed for cameras and the like but big stuff always go to an agent....
... but like i said i doubt thats the same for rega

Ant particular reason it has to be done by Rega?
I'm not sure that Rega have a service dept as such. I always used to get parts from them..
A Planet mech is a relative doddle to fit and any competent engineer should be able to replace it, as I've done in the distant past....

That's what I was getting at.Anyone who can use a screwdriver could swap a laser mech I think.
