NEBO 10 is really shaping up to be a great day. I’ve had word from some of the usual attendees who are a joy to be with and on this occasion Mark Sears of The Missing Link who has promised to bring along some great toys for us all to listen to. Mark is a diamond geezer and one who’s room at Scalford is one that I frequented the most on my visits there. This along with the promise of a top Naim CD555 from Micky Ricky and Mike Davis with his Rega shod Audio Technica ART cartridge. Sadly on this occasion we will be missing NEBO stalwart Alan Towell who due to work commitments abroad can’t make it. Alan’s magical reel to reel and self-built Voyager amps will be a big miss. However a full day is still well and truly on the cards. Ken Wynn and partner in crime Gordon always have something a little different for us to listen to. Gordon’s time as a DJ in LA some years back guarantees some new music to be tantalised by. He always manages to cost me a bloomin fortune. Hopefully the legend who is Les Wolstenholme of Avondale Audio will be along too. No doubt Nebo veteran Mik Rik will be bringing along his Radford power amp that always manage to raise a smile or too.

The Wellington pub is a rather splendid old listed building and a little rickety. The food and beer are rather splendid and Dan the landlord is a big music fan and more than happy to accommodate us for a full 12 hours. Let me tell you Neboites, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find venues that will allow us to stage our beloved day. As usual, based upon the success of the day I will organize NEBO 11. With this in mind I may even consider seeking out sponsorship and hiring somewhere bigger and more in keeping with our needs. For now though my vote is to enjoy the hospitality of The Wellington and bask in the day. My apologies to Barrington should he plan on attending as the room is on the first floor and not disabled friendly something that I promise will be addressed on any future events. There is a hotel nearby should anyone need to stay overnight. Please PM me should you need details. All that remains gentlemen is to wish you all safe journeys to and from Nebo and to have a most excellent day.

See ya down there

I was recently looking at some of the pictures i had taken at the very first NEBO and they made me smile. I must post some when i get home from work this evening. I never thought for one moment that we would celebrate a tenth or that i would meet so many great people on the back of it but hey, I did! Depending as always i will gauge afterwards if there will be A NEBO 11. Indeed if there is my plan is to look for some kind of sponsorship and get a larger place. One thing i noticed ver the past couple of years is the reluctance of landlords/hotel managers etc to let us stage the event in the manner that we have become accustomed to so seeking out venues has become a challenge. I'm on it though guys. Anyway, See ya down there... https://i.imgur.com/QNJgxCL.jpg

Only a couple of days to go chaps. I am really excited about NEBO 10 as t is a milestone event. I plan to have a tootle along to the venue on Friday to try and organize the room by clearing chair and tables etc. As mentioned previously we need to make the best of the room and space we have and i would appreciate suggestions from attendee's of last years event. Good solid supports would be good if anyone has one or two they can bring along. I plan to get there in good time to get things kicked off so i may take a pair of small stand mounters to get things started before the serious gear arrives. Looking forwards to seeing you all. for those coming from afar have a safe journey. I look forwards to seeing you all and meeting any newbies or interested parties. See you down there...

Really looking forward to this. Staying with family in Yorkshire at present and will be there bright and breezy on Saturday. My brother in law is coming along too to enjoy the day. There was no room in the car over from N. Ireland for anything big but I've brought my little BTE Passive preamp with Khozmo stepped attenuator if it's any use to anyone. It's designed for power amps with high input sensitivity so it gives you a usable volume range not just the first few degrees.

See you there!

Morning all. Well, it's here, NEBO 10. All we have to do now is turn up and enjoy the day. I spent the afternoon arranging chairs, tables and clearing excess debris which hopefully will allow us to make the best of the room. The room isn't the most conducive to Hi-Fi with it's wobbly uneven floor though The Wellington is without doubt the most enchanting. It's a lovely room as is the pub with lots of character having that village hall feel to it. So, far from perfect though i can't think of many better places to celebrate our tenth (yes tenth) event. All that is left for me to do now is wish those of you traveling from afar a safe uneventful journey and hope that you all have a cracking day. as always i look forwards to seeing all of the regular Neboites and meeting those attending for the first time and local folks curious to know what is going on upstairs in their local pub. I noticed yesterday that bunting had been strung from the beams whitch i began to take down. However i decided t leave it as it was more fitting that it remained due to our tenth celebration and the fact that it may help break up standing waves etc. See you down there............

Because people are getting fed up that content may be removed because there may or may not be an amp from a certain manufacturer in the photos. The proprietor of said amp has passed away ffs, time to stop all this crap and move on IMO.

Certain conditions need to be met before that can happen. They have not been met to date. So the ban continues.

I finds it hard to believe that there are no photos that can be shown without breaching the rules, but if that's the case then there it is.

YNWaN
28-07-2019, 17:57
I have no issue with the ban in question and would suggest that anybody writing about the event can surely work around it. If this means an edited version then I’m also fine with that.

Steve said a few words before the event got underway which were touching and fair.We then went on to have a very good day ,especially towards the end of the evening. It seems to me that it somewhat spites those who would have liked to have attended, but because of issues such as distance etc , could not,are unable to see a few photo's.It will be a shame if politics spoil what is always a good day.

Here is the thing, you folks are members of this site and not the sites owner, or moderators, and as such while opinions are valid and listened to ultimately the site owner says what is and isn't ok. There is an ethos and a few rules and this is one that is still in effect. You don't like that I get it, but it is what it is and it was felt, note the plural, so not one view that while personal galleries can have photos of said unsaid kit and model number there, this thread was in danger of breaking the rule. There were hints at this, reference to some people not being able to post photos because they would break said rule. I wanted to remind folks about said rule to clarify the situation.

This thread should not become a bitch fest about that.

So the moderators/owners need to support Steve and those who attended the meeting in explaining the photos are not being displayed because of the site managers decsision and not Steve and attendees.

And also that this may affect the ability to post future phots of meetings.

Good to see Steve is posting elsewhere to avoid this #########.

Just edited your post Mel. Please think about what you say.

The relevant rules regarding content have been in place a long time and members have had plenty of time to raise any potential issues, which nobody has done as far as I'm aware.

It's hardly the forum's fault that nobody has been able to take suitable photos. It can't be that difficult surely? Maybe some image editing might help?

Spectral Morn
28-07-2019, 20:14
After some debate about this the mod team has decided to reopen the thread and allow posting of pictures but no mention of the banned equipment, so no discussion of it or what it is will be permitted and its under those guides this thread is re opened. Anything breaking this will be removed. This accommodation applies to just this one thread.

As a reminder the circumstances for banning any mention or discussion falls under the following that while the person in question is no longer with us, the abuse and bile still lives on within the archive on the site that was owned by that individual. Until that material is removed the ban on AoS will continue.

I was trying to post a reminder so this rule wasn't broken by anyone. That was my motivation. Not trying to be heavy handed.

Its also worth keeping in mind that arguing with any of the moderators on here is not on so there should be no questioning of moderating decisions. Persistent offenders will be banned for a week.

The problem is that a single rack was used for the entire day, with the amp in question visible in every photo taken of it as it was used early on and never removed.

Because people are getting fed up that content may be removed because there may or may not be an amp from a certain manufacturer in the photos. The proprietor of said amp has passed away ffs, time to stop all this crap and move on IMO.

The problem is that a single rack was used for the entire day, with the amp in question visible in every photo taken of it as it was used early on and never removed.

That same amp is playing in my system right now and sounding bliddy fab BTW!

Just to follow up on Neil's post. AoS will happily offer an "olive branch" but until 10 years or so of abuse and bile is removed from "the site we don't mention" the NVA discussion ban here will remain! We appreciate that the former owner is no longer alive, and we're prepared to "bury the hatchet" but that decision is in their hands.

We know it is an emotive subject, but please also no questioning of moderating decisions. Persistent offenders will be banned for a week.

I hope we can now get back to enjoying NEBO10. I for one am looking forward to seeing some photos. It's "only" hi-fi guys, let's put this all behind us and enjoy the music!

Indeed, and *that* is the key point that some people are missing.

You need to learn to look outside of your own 'immediate bubble' sometimes and appreciate what impact the above has had on others, not just think of yourself and your desire to discuss what *you* think should be discussed.

We will gladly "move on" and "grow the fuck up" when a completely clean slate has been made, and crucially, which involves every single last piece of abusive remark aimed at AoS. myself, and some of the mods and members here from the site that can't be named, together with a promise from those in charge there now that none of that will occur again (from others, out with of the deceased RD).

Only when that happens will the ban on discussing NVA gear be lifted, and we can all move on. RD may be dead, but the bile and abuse, aimed in this direction by others and him, contained on his forum, is still alive and kicking in the archive.

Therefore, some folks here need to consider that fact and let it sink in!!!;)

Persistent offenders will be banned for a week.A wise decision.

Well done mod team.

Spectral, no one should be immune from questioning, after all, isn't that the catalyst to how we arrived at this sensible decision?

Context can be lost sometimes so apologies if I misinterpreted your intent.

I think lots of people are tired of being dragged into the impact of a personal disagreement between a small number of people and it’s easier to go elsewhere.

My guess is that 90% + of people on this forum would have no knowledge of the issue had it not been repeatably drummed into us via a big headline at the top of the forum page and constant warnings/bans like imposed here.

I am now pissed off with all this STUPIDITY and am out of here for ever.

Hi Mel,

I'm sorry you feel that way and hope you reconsider, but at the same time it's all very well for you to say the above, and refer to it as "stupidity", when you haven't been the victim of a hate campaign for 10 years, and subjected to continual personal abuse, as others and I have, not just from RD, but a considerable proportion of the HFS membership, and who have still continued with their behaviour since Richard's demise.

Always easy to be dismissive towards (or distance oneself) from something when you've not been involved in it. Different kettle of fish when you've been subjected to the grief! And that is why until all that crap stops (and the existing stuff in the archive is deleted), NVA gear won't be allowed to be discussed here.

Anyway, back to the NEBO chat, and hopefully a few pics:cool:

Marco.

Lol... No comment!;)

Save to say that lots of folk you meet from forums in real life seem like "decent blokes", only to later stab you in the back and be found out as the opposite: two-faced bastards.

Savvy's first move, in order to comply with his "decent bloke" status, would be to remove the AoS/Marco hate-fest from the EOTW section of the forum that can't be named, and with a promise that in future no further material of that nature will be posted by the membership.

I await with bated breath for that to happen! If it does, then we can look at removing the current ban on NVA, but if not, the status quo will remain.

We can imagine it though, conjure the scene up for ourselves. I'm seeing some old-ish blokes sat around listening to hifi. Inky blackness descends. Silly grins appear on faces, though they can't be seen because of the inky blackness. Speakers disappear. Hours go by. Everyone goes to the bar and gets pissed (or not if they're driving).

The amp was the power amp section from a Wyred 4 Sound Mint integrated, that had the preamp and dac destroyed when a short occurred when in previous ownership.

I managed to resurrect the power amp section, it is using B & O Icepower modules.

The Lounge Audio LCR was very poor in stock form but became excellent after extensive tweaking.

Nope. DSP is set for 200hz 2nd order crossover, just runs flat down to 20hz. Amp has 3000w to play with, no trouble getting the cones moving. :-)

A big thanks to Steve for organising and everyone who brought gear and music. It's the first time I've been able to stay to the end and I see what they do now after the "normal" people have left.... they play specialty music...pipe organs...smooth reggae (great to hear John Holt again, Barrington) and a southern rocker playing a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Qwwali (https://realworldrecords.com/features/blogs/what-is-qawwali-a-beginners-guide/) song on a slide guitar (Derek Trucks). If you liked that track there is a great 19 minute live version on Live at The Georgia Theatre. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_at_Georgia_Theatre)

Yes, the speakers firing down the room was a big improvement compared to across. The Bastanis had plenty of space to strut their stuff and there is plenty of room for several pairs of speakers. At least the stairs are reasonably wide so not too difficult. The food was great - good veggie selection, too. Can't see a reason to change, myself.
