Yeah I heard this earlier too. V sad. Wanted to be involved in every aspect of the sport he loved. No nonsense talker too.

I suspect most have but if you haven't seen Rush it's well worth a watch based on his rivalry with James Hunt.

Very sad news. One of my heroes.

I always liked his 'no bullshit' approach. He used to say 'shit' a lot but I guess media exposure toned it down a bit.

The reality is that the sport finally killed him. Namely, the lung damaged he suffered breathing in toxic chemicals when his car caught fire.

This was my era in motor racing and Ive never been interested again as much as the Lauda, Hunt days. It was a youthful time when I collected the model cars and formula 1 seemed to have more excitement, more characters...more mavericks if you like

Maybe that is just nostalgia talking. I respect Niki Lauda because living a long life is not the first consideration when getting behind the wheel of a formula 1 car, especially then.

I think we need people prepared to take risks like that. He was a very talented driver. RIP
