Is there music you like that most hate?

I somewhere along the way became board stiff with popular music.
I Always liked Tom Waits and 20 years ago he was mostly unknown,I now listen to Danial Jhonston,Bob Dylan and Tiny Tim.
People hate it. But I enjoy the unpolished slightly off stuff.

I'm afraid with me the question is: 'Is there music you hate that most like?'

For me the answer to that would be:

All heavy metal,
Most rap music (though I appreciate the skill and technique),
Anything involving a 'vocoder',
Anything by Genesis,
A lot of prog rock,
Country and Western,
Big-band jazz

and (I'm sorry):

Tom Waites.

Haha! Actually, I'm not sure if I really know what these genres are. Think I know what is meant by 'techno', but 'dub-techno'? Quite like some 'acid house', but know I dislike 'hip-hop'.

Also dislike all of the modern stuff that has the temerity to call itself 'R&B' !

The music I like that most hate is primarily some hand-picked art/sympho rock from the early '70. Albums such as ELO "Tarkus", Genesis "Selling England by the Pound", Yes "Tales from Topographic Oceans", mike Oldfield "Hergest Ridge".

However, most other albums from those same bands/artists are unlistenable.

I think you might have misunderstood my post. It's not that I 'hate all music that most people like', rather it's easier for me to turn round the question posed in the OP to answer.

Basically I like all forms and genres of music, apart from those I mentioned:
All heavy metal,
Most rap music (though I appreciate the skill and technique),
Anything involving a 'vocoder',
Anything by Genesis,
A lot of prog rock,
Country and Western,
Big-band jazz, and Tom Waits.

If forced to answer the question asked on this thread, I could no doubt come up with: some electronic music, most things by Stockhausen, and some ethnic 'world' music. For the latter, I could cite Tibetan religious chanting, the drummers of Burundi and the music of the Baka people, living in the rainforests of Cameroon. I don't suppose that there are many people who would like this.

Agree with you on Johnny Cash. I tend to skirt around the 'danger zone' when it comes to Country and Western. I like Linda Ronstadt, Emmy Lou Harris and of course John Cash. Not too familiar with Hank Williams. I do like Appalachian music and the banjo pickin' of Earl Scruggs etc.

What I really dislike about some C&W is the mawkish sentimentality of the 'stand by your man' school. All 'dead dogs, mother in laws, and people walking out the door'. No doubt Nick (Beechwoods) will put me right!

I hate with passion any "music" not composed by musicians. That is a lot/most of modern commercial stuff since computer audio software became cheap/cracked.

The rest is bearable, even if/when I'm not fond of it. ;)
