Getting back into it

By next week i should be up & running with the deck /Arm /Cart sorted again after a long absence..Funny how much you forget about turntables when not using em anymore!

Anyone else recently gotten back into Vinyl? The hardest bit now for me is starting from scratch buying fuzzy warbles. :(

I wont be going all nutty & fussy like i used to just one of my fave buget decks from the 80's ;)

I know it's wrong what i'm doing going back into vinyl but i've managed to convince myself upto yet..

There's no wrong or right with anything in this world. Why does this hobby have to be so *extreme* in views and stances??????

When my Dad died a good few years ago and I found myself quite well off for a few years, my manic interest in audio seemed to wane considerably. At this time, I should have "done a hifi dave" and bought all the old classics I loved early on in my career while they were cheap. It's interesting that as the finances dwindled while out of work, my interest in music and audio seemed to re-awaken and in recent times, my record collection has had a bit of a pounding. I'm even wishing I hadn't been "persuaded" to cull a third of my vinyl colection (the CD duplicates) as I think the "flavour" of LP's does suit some album issues better (granny sucking eggs to most of you I know).

It will be good to see if your memory serves you correctly and they sound as good or perhaps bad as you remember them to,

I have been on and off vinyl this last year but space is a issue for a tt within the confines of my stand so i have aquired a tt shelf which i will get around to screwing to the wall, but you know how it is lifes a bit hectic at the moment, all good things come eventually and are worth waiting for :cool:

Thing is Andre ' you say you wont go all fussy but once you get into it, suddenly and for no inexplicable reason you will have upgraded the arm, psu and cartridge oh and not forgetting the Phono stage:)

give that Lenco you have a go there is lots of great info around about building a suitable plinth (its the cheapest option I know to really good sounds) It is a very capable player when you overcome the rumble issues and I know you skilled cabinet maker so sure you would create something very special.
For me there is still a magic I can get with really good vinyl that nothing else comes close

It's just a Logic 'Tempo M'..I've actually decided to leave the whole idea,it was a bad idea i now realised this.. anyone wants the deck it'll be up for sale over the weekend..

It's not electronic it's the Manual version that doesnt overheat as theres no inbuilt PSU.Stay clear of the Electronic versions.

Oh Andre, don't abandon it. Just wait until you feel better about it and give it a try..

Failing that, an ORIGINAL Planar 2 or 3 with R200 arm on a suitable shelf or support can sound amazing once overhauled and with a modern cartridge fitted. Once set up, no messing about, just loverly music.

Easy - have it shorted out, fix an inline switch if you don't wish to leave it running during sessions and remove the eyesore - blanking plugs are available in different sizes I think..

P.S. I reckon better looking switches are available too..

I already have a proper blanking cap for the job. The on/off switch will be on the outboard PSU.

Those feet have springs inside to adjust stiffness/level from above with allen key, i won't be needing them being on a wall shelf with adjustable spike shelf & certainly don't want any spring with a unipivot arm.Secondly that Glass platters gonna be gone for an acrylic one, i don't like glass nor the weight associated with it.

Logic are probably my fave deck from back then, i had chance of a 'DM101', although they are great the actual MDF plinth was rough as a dogs arse IMHO it was also electrnic version thats is a no no in my books. I also had chance of a 2 motor 'Gemini' but had a chunk out of the plinth, never like that tufnol type platter that later went on the 'C1'..So it was enevitably gonna be the 'Tempo' btw these arnt cheap the surrounds are solid Ash hardwood sprayed black, no veneer. They were total quality for a small outlay.
