ADC ??

I have an idea....or two...( most of my ideas end up costing me money:stalks:)

I would like to do away with my Copland pre amp and use my 7520 straight into my power amp....as i really like the sound

Problem......I also have a turntable....and lots of vinyl...and I like playing them!

Solutions:

Get Stan to make a DAC that also has an analogue input (pleeeese)

Buy/make an ADC to run my turntable into and then into the DAC.....will it work?

copy all of my vinyl to HD.....havn't got a spare year....and I like to lower the Hadcock 242 onto a record:o

Any ideas?

ADC's come in minidisc and cd recorders and can be used in the way you want
or you could get a a pro adc

your not the only one who has asked stan for a dac with an analogue in!

For the turntable you would need a phono pre-amp AND an ADC which you would then finally connect to your DAC.

I have a relatively old MP3+ external sound card. For output it's nothing like as good as the Caiman, but before I had the Caiman I thought it was OK. I have used it quite a lot to make recordings. I'm told it's good enough - though whether it'd be good enough to make your LPs sound as you'd like I don't know.

You might actually be much better off sticking with analogue for analogue sources, rather than doing a round of A->D then D-A.

Looking at what's available now, there aren't many of these external boards available new now, and even some which were affordable new now fetch higher prices second hand. Currently there's an Audigy external available on Amazon UK - but I think it was cheaper new.

You could buy an internal PC card, but then that might compromise the sound more. You'd probably also get more channels than you'd really want, plus other features which wouldn't necessarily enhance the sound quality for the money you might be prepared to pay.

There could of course be some Pro kit which would do what you're looking for, and I note also the suggestion to use Mini Disc devices. Re the latter, I'd like to know how to do that myself, as I have several, but I'm not sure how to put in a live input and get a real time output from those.

This is still an area which I'd like to experiment with myself, when I have a lot more time. I'd like to be able to put LPs on in one room, and stream them live to another room, rather than merely digitise each LP, which ideally I'd also like to do at the same time.

Good luck with it anyway, though my hunch is you'd be better sticking with analogue for the best sound, assuming that's your priority.

the advantage of what dave talks about is that they can be used for recording vinyl to your pc at 24/96..

How about using a Pro-Ject Phono Box II USB (http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=phonoboxusb&cat=boxes&lang=en) if your USB port is free.

Or a Nad PP-3 (http://nadelectronics.com/products/turntables/PP-3-Digital-Phono-Preamplifier)

Take the Pro-Ject Phono USB, add a touch of airfoil software, mix in an Apple airport express, and voila! Your LP music and, any sound from your Macintosh or PC for that matter, can be piped to any Airport Express in your network, just like iTunes does it:)

no ADC but I can get a phono pre...(i have a diy one that sounds good somewhere kicking about:stalks:).

The Garrard should then go from the phono pre into the aux in. (no need to digitize).


Only problem is i dont think it will sound as good as the 7520.......

In my experience nuforce kit sounds very sterile....well the power amps do

One minor caveat is that the Airport Xpress is a 44/16 device only. Don't know about Airfoil though.
