Speakers are WLM Diva monitor, and tube amp is Almarro A318B.
More about their synergy here (http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/almarro5/318.html) and here (http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/wlm/divamonitor.html) is link to speakers review.
Almarro is still in box, because new shelf is in production.
Pictures is not HQ,so little explanation. One and half G-22000 is on the left.G-7000 and two Sony's STR-V7 is on the right side.AZbox (multimedia) and Marantz SA 8003 is on top shelf. In the middle-Sansui amp AU-11000A and Sansui tuner TU-9900.Another amp and tuner from Sansui is on the bottom,AU-919/TU-919.
Any comments are welcome.

Well to be honest Robert I have always thought anyhting by sonus to be garish, ostentatious and distasteful, the sort of speaker I would expect Liberace to have dotted about his mansion....

However I have never heard Sonus Fabers, so I am just going on my opinion of the way they look. The WLM's by contrast have an understated elegance and purpose of form

If you're crazy enough (like me), maybe we can arrange something.I offered the seller to buy his plane ticket and hotel accommodation in Croatia.Seller was from Isle of man,and he was selling one of that big Sansui's receiver, and four huge Sansui's speakers.I wanted that receiver so badly, but was afraid of fraud.

It means someone who loves audio gear with VU meters. I too love VU meters on old equipment tuners reel to reel tape decks etc....:)

You have a lovely collection and I as of yet, don't have a tuner as good as the ones you have. The highest Sansui I have been able to get so far is a 517. I would love a 9900 or a 917.

How would you rate the sonic differences between the 517 and 717 tuners. I read that there isn't much of a difference in terms of internal components but any differences are bound to be heard, I would have thought what do you think?

I am putting together a collection of tuners for a massive review I have now obtained well over 20, a mixture of Sony, Akai, Panasonic, Technics, Marantz, Pioneer and Sansui. This is a huge undertaking and I am behind on it...well behind on it  I recently launched an online magazine and products I am being sent for review are having to come first. Not that that is a bad thing far from it :)

Neil,I'm look forward to this test, and must agree;couple of months mission.
I never had TU-717 in my hand (TU-719 is on picture). My vote for TU-517.Why?Amost all of my gear is in mint condition, but that 719 was butcherd.Someone played technicians changing some caps and cables.Would not be fair to compare unserviced devices. What I don't like in new generation of Sansui's tuner is fluo display and quartz lock.I have strong feeling that emit noise and sound thinner. This is just my opinion. And does not apply to 919. He is a special kind.Selectivity,sensitivity,warmness...you name it.Hope you understand me (becouse of my English).

Awesome, Robert - some of that Sansui gear is sheer class and would shame a lot of the so-called high-end gear made these days!

Marco.

I fully agree with you Marco about comparison of hi-end gear these days with some of oldies. In this manner, I must admit that I'm expecting arrival of the King.At the beginning of July one of the best of Sansui's amp will ended on my shelf.AU-X1111MosVintage.And that will be end of my one-year search for Sansui's gear.Maybe. Who knows?

How have you got on with your dial lamps Neil?

Robert,
I'd agree with you on the 919 - I owned one for several years and recently passed it on to a friend for a price I might regret - he was supposed to be just doing a small repair on it but it sort of stayed with him!
The thing I wasn't especially happy with was selectivity - I used to get a little trouble with that in some locations.

I plan to order them this week, they need soldered in though which is a wee bit of a bummer. I rearranged the positions of the working bulbs and it looks very good even down one. He also has bulbs for my Pioneer 9500 mk1.

Thanks for asking.

In one point I have had three of very rare Sony's receivers. STR-V7 was the Sony's biggest analog receiver.2x150W/RMS/at 8 ohms.Weight:24,1 kg

I sold one for good money, one was disassembled (donor),and last is waiting for restoration.
Maybe I could help you about that missing tuning knob Neil. But I should know dimensions.

Hi Robert

Thanks for the offer of a tuning knob but I have the one off it. I was cleaning the tuning scale and inside of the tuner and had to move it from downstairs to upstairs and I haven't put it back together yet.

Out of curiosity every Sony I have got to date has been very dirty inside the tuning scale area, is that your experience too ?

Yes,lots of dust; not inside of the tuning scale area but under the hood.Reason for that is numerous perforations on top plate of that thirty years old receiver.Which bring us to the main problem-unclosed tuning cap.

ST-A7B was something special, not just about digital redout.Realy rare stuff, and price back then was almost the same as my receiver.

ST-A7B was something special, not just about digital redout.Realy rare stuff, and price was almost the same as my receiver.

Build quality on that tuner (ST-A7B) looks very similar to Sony's first tuner the 5000F( I have one of those) though mine is a slightly later FW dating from about 1974 ish (you can tell via the power switch not having a large black plastic end cap. The later is all metal) The ST-A7B has heavy construction and all sections are shielded. It is a 5 gang to the 7 gang ST-A6B tuner but the internal electronics are better too, so it should sound better than the higher gang tuner. Some say because the A7B has AM as well as FM that the FM only A6B should be better but I can't see how that would be the case, though the proof in the pudding would be having a listen and comparing it to the A6B.

The ST-A6B is nice but not as well made as the previous generation. The tuning knob for instance, as in your receiver, has no support; whereas in the previous generation they do. The fascia holds the tuning knob in place and if the locking bolt comes loose the whole thing sags and goes off centre. The slightly older one can't do that as a support frame holds it in place, giving extra support.

I would love to hear a ST-A7B.

I never had any of these tuners, and can't comment neither sound or build quality.
Not sure what extra suport you talking about. Can tell you that STR-V7 has an internal body (not sure for right expression),and fascia has got nothing with that tuning knob.He is floating (not sure for that expression too).

This is my listning space (from few months ago,to be precisely).
Some of you may have alredy seen this picture (on another forum).

http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz292/pepa131/a1.jpg

Regards,
Robert

Neil,hope I satisfy your curiosity.

Nice array! As of 6 months ago I have gotten into a vintage systems.

I don't have the space to keep a lot of gear. (In the past 6 months I went through a HK670 receiver, HK505 integrated, JBL 4312 speakers, & AR XB/Shure M97)
And like you, I found Sansui quite nice. I have settled on the Sansui AU/AT717 amp/tuner combo with Dynaco A25XL speakers. (I also have the small and lovely Sony STR-7045 receiver in the bedroom playing thru Mission 70 mkII speakers)

I was really surprised how good they can sound, comimg from modern electronics systems.

(A side note: looking up your "about me' public profile, I see you live in Croatia. My grandmother was from Croatia, though I've never been there.)

Hey Mike.
Nice to have you here.
Tnx for your kind words.I agree with you that some vintage stuff in comparison with modern still sounds good.Really good.I already saw your Sansui's,and left some comment for them. One of the best Sansui tuner-amp,but you should invest a little in cleaning and recapping.
More from me when I get back from vacation. Here I have a really shity wi-fi network :steam:

Tnx Andy;
I am delighted with them too.If all goes well,in autumn I starts with the complete restoration of my baby's :)

Speaking of holiday,I'm at the moment on the same place as last year (and have a lot of problems with local wi-fi network ),so some fresh pics will be on forum for several days :( (holiday days will be over soon). The only thing I am delighted now is one big,big package in front of my door.Finally.

To be continued...

Thanks Robert "Retro"'
I do remember your comment about recapping my AU-717, but I never replied. I never replaced any of the caps, and have read mixed reviews on whether "to recap" or "not to". I'm handy at soldering so I suppose I can do it. But which are the most important ones to do first, and cost is a factor too. And I will need a replacement amp to use in the mean time while I do the surgery.

As you have soldering skills, all you will be needing is service manuals (I can send you both sm) and one multimeter. And patience,of course :)
Lot's of information about recapping or refurbishment of Sansui equipement you can find on AudioKarma (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=39) forum.

To summarize;most important is to remove old glue from board and replace all small caps with some Elna,Nichicon...It is not lot of money. If main caps (large one, near transformer are not leaking, leave them ).Resolder every point (joint) on board too.
My opinion is that there is no discussion to change or not. This amp is over 30 years old.

Hard to see from the picture but it looks in good condition.

Chris,I thought it would never come.
I would have rated it as 9,5/10.I know that the image is bad but I was so rapt, and my daughter is urgently needed my camera,and....I am a bad photographer :)
Good price?It's relative.Almost 2k € for over 35 kg of finest electronic.Judge yourself.Price was over 7 000 DEM in 1992.Just for comparison,VW Golf (Rabbit) price was around 14 500 DEM.I am satisfied with deal.
Satisfy with the image from the fourth page a couple days becouse I'm stretched with job,and paper work is killing me :steam:

I'd say that the price was lower than I'd have expected it to be, so you did pretty well, considering it was so obviously what you really wanted.

retro
29-07-2010, 23:02
Don't thing so.Since we live in an average large flat,I have to reduce some :(.
I have no place to store all,and to be honest it is a lot of money in the components that which are not in use.
There are many potential buyers in my area and I have a difficult decision.Think that only AU-11000 (and Almarro) will remain.G22k too.

There are a high quality device out there for sure, but these devices do not have such a soul, a story behind...

Oh My God! I can't believe this piece. How does it compare to the Alpha 907?
If you are thinking about AU-alpha907MR (export model-multivoltage) from 1995,maybe I'll have an answer for a couple of months (friend of mine is using one,and we will compare).
907Limited from 1994,907NRA from 1998,907XR from 1994,907KX from 1992 was for Japanese market only,so who can tell?

AU-X1111MV and AU-alpha907MR were their best international models, and AU-alpha907Limited and AU-07Anniversary Model (from 1996) their best domestic model.
I hope this help.

That sounds like a smart move. I'd keep the best of the best. But I am a bit of a minimalist and like to have only a few top tier gear.

On more serious note,I just received a remarkable example of Sansui big G receiver.Yes,another one.I could not resist it when I saw the pictures.
Packaging was also remarkable (exactly how it should be done),and lots of friendly e-mails followed with more than fifty pictures taken during packing job.For me, to sleep tight.
Thank you Mr.Steve
