so.....
People actually believe the earth is flat, in fact it appears there are more people believing it now than for centuries, why? It's ridiculous isn't it?
I'm not sure if it's just one big well orchestrated joke, or a symptom of some mass delusion to make a section of society feel relevant, maybe even important.
I'd happily stick my neck out and say no one here is in any doubt, are they?

It's the internet. Stupid people will believe all the rubbish out there. Like all the conspiracy theory nonsense, chemtrails, fake moon landing and fake 9/11, kennedy assassination cover-ups and the rest. Mugs the lot of 'em!

Holland is pretty flat
If they had been less ambitious and called it a flat country rather than the whole earth, they'd have nailed it! :)

Stenciled on a sign I pass on a regular walking route is the instruction to "keep calm and research flat earth". I did both and still think it's a globe.

It's definitely the internet! What I find most amusing is the fact that I have watched quite a lot of videos debunking the flat earth nonsense of various proponents, and the only reason I have ever heard of these infamous flat earthers is by watching them get debunked, if I hadn't watched a video of them being ridiculed I would never of heard of them in the first place.

In the end, does it really matter?
Well it will if sailing round the world. Or flying I guess.
But I suppose its fairly harmless. Some folk love to believe our masters lie about everything

Some interesting facts are that the earth is not a perfect sphere, The Equator being bulged out 43km wider vs the pole to pole diameter.
There is also time difference - time moving more slowly at the equator, but requiring atomic clocks at each location to measure the tiny difference.

Are they genuine or just being (post?) ironic like the Jedi Knights in the 2001/11 censuses?

No different to God or audiophile fuses really
If in spite of insurmountable evidence to the contrary people are happy to believe what's the problem?
not sure there is insurmountable evidence there is no god.... or for that matter that fuses dont work either.
Not easy to prove a negative though...

I think its syndrome where people like to get noticed for being bloody minded about something. They havent achieved much in life and this is their chance to stand out. it gives them a twisted sense of purpose and they feel that people are forced to listen to them because its so crazy. (normally they would just be ignored)
I really dont understand it but its somewhere on the scale of mental illness.
Saying the earth is flat is way beyond ridiculous. Im starting to think much of the world is mad when you consider organised religion. I just point them at the dinosaur bones which must have been a trial run.
I like the idea of a good conspiracy theory but most of them are just Cuckoo
I think Im actually quite sane in a mad world. They are all trying to drive me round the bend but I fight it for all Im worth. Maybe this is just the matrix and the real me is plugged into a holding tank :)
What about all those ships that disappear every year, only one explanation really....

Of course the earth is flat or I’d fall over all the time. [emoji23]

It must be flat or all the Australians would be upside down.

I used to have time to fall over :)
I've always thought you fell of the edge of it once you went further north than Newcastle.

Is there anything further north than Newcastle? I've heard rumours, but people who've gone to explore have never come back.

I have once. It's cold and wet and you can only buy American chocolate. Possibly I did not go far enough to fall of the edge but I must have been quite close.

Not to mention that time and reality as we know them cease to exist beyond that point.

How thick is the world supposed to be? Drilling for oil or gas must be a bit of a gamble. And all this fracking is worrying me a little...

Not too worried - I've just bought this coat which is super-warm and weighs next to nowt. Probably has a carbon footprint the size of Antarctica though...

Trouble is we are a bit more than fleas and I dont think mother earth was ready for draining the oil reserves, a billion tonnes of plastic, dumping nuclear waste and pumping crap out into the atmosphere.
There was probably a good balance for a while with a natural ecosystem until we came along and started growing exponentially. When short sighted greed takes over from sustainable growth we are all stuffed
I agree that mother earth needs to get on with a detox to restore some natural order.
