Here is a quick pic of my Delphi playing one of my favourite albums. The 2nd Free LP from 1969.

Interesting looking turntable. My father lusted for the Delphi turntable in the 80's.

I've always loved them. Had many TT's over the years including a Thorens TD160S, Townshend Rock/Excalibur/Merlin and LP12/Ekos, but after hearing my 1st Delphi (Mklll) at Radlett Audio back in 1988, I never really wanted any other TT. This one was also from Dave at Radlett which I picked up about a year ago and apart from needing a new belt and a service, is like new. Well chuffed.

Fantastic LP with great production. This is a later (1979/80 pressing I think), but still sounds superb. Would love to get hold of a decent 1st press, but becoming very difficult to find and very expensive when you do.

I always loved the look of the Rock turntables. Most people do find them ugly though. How does the Delphi sound compared to your Rock set up?

The Rock was a little bit dry and sterile sounding with no real emotion, but still a very nice turntable. Probably more accurate than the Delphi, but no depth for me.

I was thinking about getting that. How does it compare to the original?

I think its better , But my original has suffered abuse when I was a teenager and had no knowledge of record player , To stop the arm gliding across the LP i put a 1p coin on the head shell , Sorted :)

Ah, lovely looking deck. Probably my favourite of all.
I always fancied one in my LP days, but it never quite happened.

I used to have a Delphi Mk4, loved it. Oracle have a picture of it on their website.

I now run an AMG Giro which eats it for breakfast, but I do miss it, sentimental value.

The AMG is a pretty thing too.
It is, understated. With the new Reference PSU its even better than it was.

It looks like it is about to topple over to me!
It would give me the heebie-jeebies.
The Oracle kills it stone dead, looks wise, imo.

Geoff's pic brings it all back to me. I had the first Oracle Delphi in the country and it was a real eye opener and the sound trounced everything else we had at the time A beautiful turntable which John Michell based his Gyro design on.

Looking to go the "Passive Pre Amp" route and liking the look of the Icon Audio passive. Any thoughts or recommendations.

The Icon Audio passive is generally not much liked - I agree, I tried one. It's a kind of drab sound, music with the lustre subtracted.
There are lots of much better passive preamps around imo.

Fair enough, and I don't dispute your assertion. The Delphi is a beautiful deck and I miss mine. However on a sound basis the AMG Giro destroys a Mk4/5 Delphi, and more than likely a Mk6. Its also cheaper than a Mk6, comes with arm ,though on looks, the Delphi wins.

Great album , I have the original from back in the day and the new 1/2 speed master , Nice TT as well , Keep vinyl alive :Dapologies for hijacking your thread, his is the half speed mastered free album Al?
Now having read all the posts I have the answer
Oracle's have emotion in spades, very engaging decks and fluid sounding decks, if you a full on detail freak then maybe an SME or TAS is for you.
Nice to see a MKI/II in action Geoff
