I hate TV adverts, particularly when they keep repeating the same ones over and over.

However to keep the brain active I look for inconsistencies or stupidity to give amusement.
Take the Right Move advert with the sad 'Graham...' being summoned by his missus up and down the stairs.

Cut to the shot where they have moved out ...they have taken everything including the stair carpet .... and moved to a bungalow?

Sad I know that I noticed, Shirley thinks so anyway. :D

Maybe they have a basement, Graham's S&M dungeon?

Graham will need something to wrap his wife's body in when he finally snaps! :wowzer:

I think what's happened there is that they don't like the people who are buying the house off of them because they were messed about by them for ages over the sale. They're the vindictive sort so they've ripped up the stair carpet and burnt it in the back yard. But they've left a bit unburnt just so it's obvious to the buyers what they have done. Of course there's not enough time to show all that in the advert.

The other half still subscribes to Sky .. She is astute enough to record the progs with ads inbetween so when she does actually watch them she can fast forward the shyte out !!!

Ads that really bug me are the ones that are obviously foreign with the english just dubbed on, like those bad kung fu films. Oh & that arsehole with the parsnips & his funeral plans.

Bit like the Fire Brigade, but you get to smash down the door and douse the telly. Followed by an investigation into what programme set off the alert. Likely to be Ant & Dec, they've been guilty of Arse-on many times.

5.09am... Couldn't sleep, mate?

I'm just up - well rather Del's asked me to get up and make her a cup of tea and stuff, before going to work, as she likes that and it saves her time in the morning. I've to have another one ready for her, with some toast, when she comes out the shower! Some service, eh?

Lol... I really don't mind, in fact I enjoy it, although she knows she won't get any sense out of me until at least 8am, and coffee o'clock. Indeed, she'd probably say that she doesn't get much sense out of me, no matter what time it is!:D

Anyway, looks like a nice sunny day outside....

Marco.

But she does manage to get some sense out of you sometimes - we need to know what's her secret :D Think I may have a "posh coffee" too before I leave the house, I'm working for myself today, so I'm working at my own pace (slow). Honestly this being "my own boss" is tough going, I'm such a lazy shite I'm in danger of sacking myself.

What's with the stupid singalong adverts. Not on now luckily but that vanorama advert that made white van men seem like total planks.

Don't know how they got away with that one for so long.

I hate the Dormeo 'Octasmart' mattress advert. It's an onslaught of non-stop brainwashing dialogue that goes on and on trying to batter you into buying. That would put me off ever doing business with them!

The ''sell your home and stay in it til you die'' ad starring the failed maths countess is hideous. And June needs a parsnip stuffed where the sun don't shine. :)

And the 'Age UK' ad, where they've deliberately chosen the most miserable, pathetic looking old git with a hangdog expression they could find and then they go on about loneliness. Not surprising he's bloody lonely looking like that.

I've a hdd recorder that was filled years ago that I still watch films etc from. The old ads can be bypassed of course but is interesting to see what they were trying to flog you then

Does anyone know/remember what was the first advert shown on the nascent ITV? (I do, as I'm a magnet for trivia, though wasn't there at the time!)

They did a similar thing when B&Q launched Trade Point. Made us sound like football fans. Even the skip-fillers aren't that bad.

I'll have a guess: Fairy Liquid, or Colgate (sorry, two guesses)

I had to look it up. It's not fags or booze, disappointingly.

Oh no, we were far too conservative for that sort of thing, unlike the French, who were happy to promote 'Les ragues du jam'. But then they'll eat just about anything.

If you said right no TV for a year, could you do it? I think I could now.

Theres not much that I would actually miss. I would blank off the wall plate and just use the screen for computer games or films.

I feel better when I havent seen the news on tv for a few weeks. As for the adverts, they were always naff really and if you had no tv you wouldnt have to put up with any of them.....freedom! :)

My uncle had an interesting theory on TV ads. He said that if they show the product doing something then it should be able to do it in real life - crazy idea I know!

He thought up that nugget of wisdom after watching those Citroen ads where the cars turned into dancing robots.

Well how are Citroen supposed to show their cars? Reliably starting and running faultlessly? They don't do that in real life either :(

The advert I dislike the most at the moment shows some woman eating a yogurt, and her dog comes into the room, wanting his walkies. Next news the dog in dressed in a sort of Victorian swimsuit. I can put up with that, but then the hubby enters the room, sees the dog and then pulls this face which is wrong in so many ways it makes me feel a bit ill.

Thanks to Sky + (other recording methods are available), there's no need to see adverts any more. The television companies will be well aware of this and so product placement will become more of a thing. I don't have a problem with this.
