Analogue porn!!:clapclapclap:
Nice pics Jim.
What's the mat, any improvements over riding bare back?
The mat is sorbathane and was supplied with the turntable. I disliked it at first but when you spend £2000 on a turntable they are hardly going to give you a mat that underperforms. I have tried many other mats but unbelievably nothing sounded better or quite right other than this cheap piece of sorbathane.
So VPI got it right although I think they do supply other mats and also recommend bare back playing.

Claasy looker Jim :)
Claasy looker Jim :)
Thanks Rob. It will be the only turntable I will ever have now unless I have a windfall and can afford one of the higher models but some of them are eyewatering price but probably sound eyewateringly good!:)
I bet it sounds as good as it looks::)

That looks a better mat than the one supplied with mine. Couple of questions Jimbo, what have you placed beneath the motor unit? And where did you get that slab of carbon fibre?

Hi Steve, the mat under the motor unit is an Amazon mouse mat! Does a great job isolating any motor vibration. The large slab under the turntable is compact laminate. It feels as heavy as granite and is made of thousands of layers of some material set in resin I believe. This sits on some sorbathane feet and does a very good job of Isolating the turntable from any other vibration.
As you know the turntable is massively heavy itself with a huge sheet of thick steel bolted under the plinth. The cone and ball feet add further Isolation.

very nice jimbo!
oliver and i were talking the other day on the subject of interconnects going straight to the tonearm wire rather than via a din plug and low and behold yours has it already
Hi Jamie, I think you can actually buy those VPI RCA to tone arm blocks separately but not sure how it would look bolted to your deck?
it would have to go under it ideally so the tonearm wires exit straight into the box.this also brings about few problems though.
just looked and yes you can buy them,

i think for that price id be going the diy route though.

I've always liked the look of the VPI decks and have been seriously tempted to sell off the Techie just so I could buy one but I've always bottled it in case I didn't like it.

Hi Mike,
I can assure you there is nothing to be afraid of, these decks sound stunning. Oliver and Alan(Firebottle) have both heard it and they did not feel it was lacking even though its a belter!

Stability was fine and I didn't notice any Wow or Flutter.
I'd personally never move away from DD, but I was really impressed with it.

I had a Techie along with many other turntables and my VPI sounds much better in all respects to me.the arm can be a bit of a fart on but once set it makes great music. I love the VPI.

I managed to get one of the mouse mats and slipped it underneath the motor unit. However, i find that it slips around. Any suggestions?

It must have been a different mat to mine Steve as mine does not slip at all. It is very grippy?
Was it this mat?

Just had a thought. I have forgotten which arm I have on mine.
Just had a thought. I have forgotten which arm I have on mine.
Earlier models came with Unipivot 9 inch arm. Later models came with gimballed arm.
The last three nights have been pure analogue magic.:)

I bet !
The 2M FGS is just sublime Rob especially on the VPI. A stunning combination. I now have an analogue set up that has stopped any thoughts of further equipment upgrade.
I can now just sit back and enjoy the music and this set up gets absolutely the most out of the black stuff!:)
