S.Not a fan.

Bass heavy, thick sounding cables.

But some Mogami and laugh at how much you've saved in comparison for a far more balanced sound.

I was showing you the cable, Shane, as a point in the right direction.

Here's a direct link to the interconnect version:

The cable is an RCA, but with added earth bond. Nothing special about it being a 'specific tone arm' cable.

I have a set of HD1X, and they are nice, but they do have a low end bloat.

However I now use Mogami as a balanced cable for my TT, and Oriton Orange Symphony as an RCA, which for me, is the best RCA there is.

However there are ranges of Mogami cable, so its best to do some research first as to which one you want to use.

Personally, I'd just a Mogami terminated with Harmony plugs over a HD1X, but if you really want a HD1X drop me a PM as I may as well sell mine.

You can buy Mogami at HHB direct or plenty of sellers on eBay making their own. Oliver is jsut giving you visual examples to look for elsewhere....obviously.

It's for my simple headphone set up. Just to link my CD Player to the Headphone amp. Sound wise, just something smooth and balanced. Without adding/taking away etc. Which particular Mogami interconnect do you recommend?

Mogami 2549

You can buy it direct from HHB off the real, then choose your own plugs. Its not hard making an RCA if you have a soldering iron.

Shane,

I have some Belden 1800f interconnects from Yannis Tome. They are superb cables and I'd highly recommend them, he also does Mogami.
I can't seem to be able to show you a link, but if you search for the Belden interconnects you should be able to find him.

Hope this helps

No big issue with item location being overseas. Just a bit wary of some fakes. Not saying those are fakes though!

There has to be profit in fakes to make the Chinese manufacturer them...Nordost yes, Mogami, No.

I found those Beldens to be quite 'nasaly' myself, same with Canare, but I know many rate them. The Mogami's are a lot smoother and more natural in comparison for me.

Shane I've used lots of Mark's cables over the years and they are all very good sounding as far as I'm concerned

I'm currently borrowing Colin's MG's which are the ones before the current HDX1's and they are lovely

The only cable I had I didn't get on with was the Oyaide FTVS-510 pure silver, with WBT's, beautifully made as is normal for Mark but they just didn't suit the system at the time

Otherwise I'd very highly recommend Mark, and a super chap to deal with as well... ;)

Don't hesitate buying the MG's.... I believe Mark will take returns/refunds if you don't get on with them so you have nothing to loose, and I reckon you'll love them ;)

I've got a couple of HDX1 interconnects, I use them with my step up and phono stage, sound very good and well balanced to me.
I'm inclined to think any thickness or bass heavy effect is a problem in the system?

Well Chris I also have never found any MG's to have any "thickness or bass heavy effect"... MG cables just seem to sound very good to me...

If I wasn't going to be making my own RCA, XLR or speaker cables then I'd definitely be ordering more from Mark..... great guy to deal with too

Don't know if that says you like the MG's or not Oliver...

Don't know if that says you like the MG's or not Oliver...I don't have any issue with the build quality of Mark's work, he's very good At constructing cables. I didn't like the aforementioned cable because it had a thickness to the bass and lower levels of transparency than other, cheaper cables I've built and tried. I tried the MG cables against Mogami 2549, Klotz MC5, GAC-1, SOMMER Carbocab, Van damme XKE, Van Damme Lo-Cap, Silver/Gold Hybrids, Shark Silver plated, Amazon Basic and lots more!

I recommended the Mogami because they were the most balanced cable with good levels of transparency.

I rolled my eyes at Chris's comment, blaming the system for my assessment of the cable having thick sounding bass. None of the other cable's did it. Hence my opinion.

It annoys me when people blame someone's system when they don't agree with someone's opinion. Its a cop out. I could say, if you can't tell the MG cable has thick bass, then the system isn't good enough to reveal it.

That kind of comment just removes the value of any conversation or discussion about kit.

Its ok not to agree with another's assessment on the basis that everything we hear is subjective.

Not to a lob a grenade in here?
But to agree that everything is subjective...

To show cables CAN have system synergy, even if only slightly...

When I had Oliver’s Spotfires in my system I found them (ironically!) to have a lumpen heavy quality in the bass compared to what I was using.
Nicely open in the mids and top, but a plodding one note quality in the mid bass.
Low end just didn’t work for me at all.

Maybe didn’t gell in my system, entirely possible as I’ve had cables that did that in the past.
My kit, my ears as always.

Not decorum to say at the time of course, they were out on loan trial amongst the troops.
Be polite, state the positives and pass them on to someone who’s system might benefit from them better, no need for further comment.

Just one man’s opinion.
Sorry Oliver! :)

If that's the copper coloured one it makes a great digital cable. Compared to my mates pricey cable and it wasn't a million miles away.

I exclusively use HDX1 interconnects in my system.

I find them to be an excellent choice that have no hidden nasties and do not seem to work as a tone control in the way other cables I have tried do.

Recent cables I tried include Chord Chameleon VEE3 which I found to have a very sharp top end and some Audioquest Quartz which were overly smooth and polite.

Definitely, recommended and mine have a very rich detailed bass response...

Why don't you just buy them new and direct from Mark... the basic HDX1 is only £58 for 1m for goodness sake... and if you don't like them Mark will take returns.. what have you got to loose?

I've just got a new HDX1 from Mark which is being used between the two ML's and it's performing just fine... I will be making my own XLR cables soon but for the time being the HDX1 is great

Couldn't agree more.

Put these in to a selection of cables and see what you think.

Personally MG HDX1s sound balanced with no fuss.

Can't say they are bloated on the bass. I've been using MG cables for over 10 years now and that's never been the case and I've used them in solid state and valve systems.

Sure I've tried lots of different cables but I always come back to MG.

With any cable, you need to give them a good amount of time to burn in and to then get used to them.

Mark is a lovely guy to deal with too.

Hope that helps.
