View Full Version : What happened to Shinkoh resistors ?

It seems funny the best electrolytic s are now AN Kaisei ,

and now the best resistors are AN Tantulam S. but I will not pay $47.05 for a single 2 watt resistor.
Dose anyone know what happened to Shinkoh Tantulam resistors ?

I went with Vishay Z foil 0.6 watt at no more than $17.95 each most at $15.95 they are said to be better in key places.
I was looking at the Tantulams for cathode resisters for ECC83 tubes in my DAC .

Kiwame resisters get a lot of love to but they are really inexpensive.

Any tube guys have advice? I am all ears since in the U.S. it seems Shinkoh is unavailable in the values I need.

Get ordinary metal foil/film resistors for pennies and move from there. Emperor's new clothes and that.

I'm replacing all the metal film resisters in the amplifier section with Vishay nude Z foil resistors and Caddock MK 132 resistors.
I will be using a wire wound and Kiwame resistors in the power supply ,along with 3 Schottky diodes and 2 big JJ and Audio Note Kiasei electrolytic s .
Elna Silmik 2 where not in the path directly .
Modwright coupling caps there is a lot of other upgrades but these will have the most impact. There will be plenty of Audio Note parts added , AN silver RCA jacks,AN gold tube sockets.
Silver wire ect...
Dynamat extreme will be used in key locations to dampen transformer vibration and chassis vibration, I have already added anti vibration feet , a PS audio power cord and upgraded the tubes. This should be the best first gen Jolida FX tube dac around when I am done.

I would avoid anything Caddock if it is not too late.

I had Caddock resistors in my loudspeaker crossovers and they were far from neuttal. I also had some Caddock RCA plugs that were a questionable fit.

What's the bill for that little lot, then?

multiple orders and I am afraid to add it all up.
What Caddock resistors did you use ?
As the MK132 gets really good reviews.

Fair question but I can't remember. Years ago now. I have a picture somewhere but finding it would be time consuming. If I find it I'll post it.

Double whammy on Caddock, really, so I just am on a bummer with their stuff.

Yours could be OK.

OK early in the morning post above.

The Caddock resistors were from the power film series. The RCA connectors were actually Cardas.

So Caddock double bummer isn't actually true.

Sorry about that.

It is probably more a question of how that little lot you have bought works together rather than the individual attributes of each component anyway.

I am hoping it all jives but you never really know till at least a couples days of burn in. After all the parts come in by end of April for some of them. By some point in May I should have an idea , most of the parts I am using have been used successfully in mods on this dac so I have a good chance of all being well.

You could copy my idea of having swappable caps.

My DAC has both Jupiter and Dueland copper foils as a choice for the output stage by having two sets of RCA output jacks.

You could go further by building a separate box with a few different brands of cap not only of differing brand but also differing capacitance.

When you get fed up with one set, move into the next.:);)

You will find it more subtle than rolling valves but it just adds flexibility which is super nice.

The only wat that could happen is if the whole DAC was moved to a much larger case.
It is crammed pretty tight in there as it is.

I was just talking about making an extension box for the output stage only, which you could hide away maybe.
