Hi guys at the moment I have my amp plugged into an extension cable but having read what some people say, would there be an audible difference by having a second plug put in so i could plug my amp directly into the mains?

Not sure if this is just one of those "you convince yourself it sounds different" or not

Try replacing the extension mains cable with something a bit more substantial.

Well I am reluctant to purchase for instance a Tacima as I have lost count of the number of people who say it strangles the sound.

Funny , ive never read that. I once knew a gut who worked for sevenoaks who thought the Tacima was great. And on the wHat hi fi forum theres a lot of fans.

Make your own extension.Get some good unswitched sockets from B&Q,make a box to fit them in and wire up with some hefty cable.

I use one of these:

An affordable mains conditioner from Lindy.

that's exactly the same as the tacima ! i have one, and it does kill the dynamics IMHO .

Essentially what I use: an industrial Olsen metal-clad distribution board fitted with a Schaffner filter block and a surge suppressor. It doesn't however have the fancy label, neither is it fitted with the screened cable and only cost a fraction of the 'soundfantastic' range.

In my lash up this makes a big difference - and its easy to swap back to verify it is not just imagination. Better dynamics and more at the very top and bottom.
