Classical and opera listening

It had been a long while since I have been into Classical and opera,
I put the 1812 overture in the transport and found it lacked scale, while still dynamic it sounded small.
No symphony recording should sound that way. I switched from Triode to Ultra liner and suddenly the preference exploded in both size weight and scale.
Is it that I went from 20 watts per channel to 40 watts or is it something more?
Funny it was not much louder just larger more full bodied.

Thank you great thread , I just ordered the London Philharmonics Kashmir it is a Led Zeppelin score.
It would be interesting to hear it done with an operatic vocalist.
Not that an opera singer would make it better, it would just be interesting to hear it done.

I don't think I'll ever be into opera but, since my loudspeaker upgrade last year, I've been listening to a lot more classical and choral/pipe organ stuff, as it's the first time I've had a system that can really do it justice.
