View Full Version : Cheap hdmi cables
Well I needed a 3m hdmi cable for a link between a relocated AppleTV and a switchbox. Baulked a bit at the pricing out there but found the thatcable website. Received one today, ordered at the weekend, for £6.99 inc delivery. Looks the job with heavy duty gold tipped plugs and a cloth sleeve on the cable itself. Plus it works.
Expensive HDMI cables are a total waste of money unless you're going over 10m in length.
The only thing to take note of with HDMI is which version of the spec your equipment conforms to and to get at least that spec of cable. I bought a couple of 1.4 spec cables from Ebay for £4 each. A 1m <insert name of exotic cable here> costing at least 10 times that is going to give me exactly the same picture/sound quality.

we used to sell cheap hdmi cables - we used one when we first got a ps3 in store, we thought the ps3 was crap because there was colour shift on the edges of things... turns out it was the cheap hdmi - we replaced it with a vivanco one and it was perfect. the vivanco ones are also very cheap, but the one we were using was an uber cheap one from a customers sky installation... the vivanco was definatly better picture quality

I didn't want to start another cable debate.
Just a recommendation of a well constructed one of good value that I had found.

Running in nicely, thank-you kindly.
I'm waiting to get my CD5x back from being transportised and then I'll give a bit of a report on my findings.

Nice find ! Thanks for the info. :)
Have you tried their audio cables ?
First time I've used them so that'll be a no!
The That cable has got a 5* WHF review, on several occasions, Review (http://www.whathifi.com/Review/ThatCable-HDMI/) - I got a couple of QED's for Sky HD and PS3, so not tried them but looks like a "no brainer" at the money if anyone needs a value cable.
We have a 1.5m Nikkai Pure connectivity cable from Maplins (£25). And a SilverCrest 2m cable from Lidl. £4.
Both can stream 1080p.BluRay.x264-HDMI files. Biggest is a 32GB file of Avatar. Have tried swapping them around in two systems. No probs. Haven't noticed any differences between the two either!
