Help: Nakamichi CR-1E not working

My Nakamichi CR-1E cassette player has stopped working. To be honest, I haven't used it for a couple of months. All the lights come on, but it won't play anything - press play and it pauses and then lights up stopped again. I wonder if a belt has perished.

How easy is it to repair these players?

Un plug it from the mains and beat it with a big stick :D

Then take the top cover off and have a look at the belt inside , You can opperate it without the cover on but keep out
