Been asked if i wanna buy an original Systemdek armless but the Nextel paint finish has all gone, theres a lot of work involved getting it refinished.. What you think it's worth commrades, he wants £80 i personally think thats too expensive considering the time & cost involved??

I think it's a reasonable price Andre but if you can get it a little cheaper then all the better. I've seen ones with the Nextel in good condition go for £200-250 so £80 is steal really!

There will be alot of work in getting the bloody Nextel off though mate! Here's a thread that may be of interest to you http://www.vinylengine.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=26428
Follow the wigwam thread to I think that one was up for sale too.

They are very good old decks IMO! They gave the early LP12s a good run for their money at the time & sound a little more neutral to my ears.

Here's my old banger

EDIT: If it's got the original Systemdek clamp these bloody things alone change hands for £70+ on ebay one I watched sold for over £100! Madness! Still want one though!

Nice Fidelity Research arm

:)

I intend to transplant it onto the Denon when I get around to sorting out a plinth.

Yes they do seem sought after by the collectors!

Great tonearm though, super smooth bearings but just limited with cartridge choice due to it's very high effective mass. Works very well with my Denon 103 but would like to try an SPU really.

I would love the 12" FR66s but have you seen the prices they go for now!?

Still think the Systemdek good value at £80 though :)

The Systemdek was a superb turntable and with hindsight I'd say it was better than the LP12 of the period. It did like the more "toned down" arms IMO and the Mission 774 was a great match. I suspect the Regas would be too, but I'd left the Systemdek retailer by the time the RB series came along. The main bearing was a great idea and the tolerances were tightened a little as the deck went on. refill with EP90 for best results.

The arm-cable dressing on this deck was tricky as the suspension was so swimmy. get it right and the deck could be forgotten..

nitormors strips of the nextel paint without much effort.
In the past I've simply polished the alloy parts and sprayed the mdf toplate with
textured paint.
rustoleum do some nice stuff in spray cans.

Nitormors sounds like the stuff then Andre, that's if you go for it!

That is the exact deck for sale i started this topic about, he's now changed his mind about selling cos i wont play the game (End of the day the original finish is gone so tbh it's worth bugger all in my view)..O well the original plan for it was to strip away that shit blue & spray it ORANGE.
