Just got back from my first visit to the Hifi Wigwam forum's annual members' show at Kegworth.
Previously I had attended the show at its Scalford venue.
Excellent it was, with a wide diversity of systems and sounds.
Also good to see the Wam's tradition of sponsoring a charity continuing as well - this year money was raised in a hifi sale event for The Dogs Trust.
Anyhoo - herewith a random scattering of photos taken by yours truly. Most rooms covered, I think, apologies to any that aren't - no slight is intended!

Boenicke W8 speakers - one of the main attractions for me to visit the Show.
I really fancied a listen to this make!
Very good, but I'll be staying with my MBLs.

These ancient and low price Goodmans Maxim 2 were sounding superb!
Quite possibly these would get my vote for Best Sound at Show.
They just sounded clean and open and uncoloured and very transparent. Amazing, really.

Cheers Jerry.
I always find it touching people can be arsed to do this. But it does have to be said that venue looks compromised to say the least. Bit of a shame but hey.
Still, I expect most had a good time.
The DIYness of the suspended Quads made me smile:)
Great photos Jerry. I only took one picture (on my phone). This was my favourite room:

How were the Quads powered? How did the system in this room compare with that of the other room with the Quads turned through 90 degree?
Thanks for taking the time to post these Jerry.

Thank you for the pictures and for your very kind comments this was my room (108) and I can promise this was not what I intended to show at all my full Digital active system blew two Quad 405 at 09.20 on Sunday morning and the above is a second sytem I brought for the suitcase system competion . The whole thing (except for the stands) cost less than a £100 and it sound fun musical and far better than you had a right to expect . I got many positive comments from lots of visitors who stayed and listend to quite a few tracks . I loved it and it shows what you can do and achieve without spending a fortune.
Great to see so many enthusiasts still willing to take the trouble

Hi Lawrence
No, somehow I managed to miss visiting your room. I would have liked to hear those Linaeums driven by a t-amp.
Looking at the show photos on the Wam I see there were at least 2 more rooms that I missed.
I'm a bit baffled by that!

I admired the work and enthusiasm but the 57s sounded overdriven to me , maybe i visited when he had wound the volume up
lots of lovely diy

Probably my favourite room too.Was that JohnG's room?
How were the Quads powered? How did the system in this room compare with that of the other room with the Quads turned through 90 degree?
For me the 90degree quads were fine, but they were in probably the worse room at the venue - between two other rooms with only sliding door partitions between them. However, even taking that into account they didn't sound anywhere near as good as the one in the crowded "Do it yourself" room.

What was the amplifier that was being used to drive them?
Actually the only way you can overdrive Quad 57s is to feed them with a signal of greater than 33V peak, when they will then arc-over. That's not to say however that if driven hard (loud) they won't sound good - it depends on the room.

I had a great day at the show. What struck me was the very high percentage of great sounding systems. Good but all different. At commercial shows there’s normally only a few systems that I think are any good and most of it sounds terrible to me.
Hi Ollie, you've guessed correct, it was my room.
To be more precise it was Room 106, 'The Build it Yourself, or if You Can't, Get Someone to Build it for You Suite'
All the devices in use are on the The Wam Speadsheet, the only change being the TT set up.
The Quads were like a Teenage Angus Young, they rocked the party.
We had 'Air Guitarists' in the room, and head bobbing to match a front row at a 'Motorhead' Concert.
Definately do it all again.

Hi Sharif
Apologies for not getting to your room, but thank you for visiting mine, and another apology for not recognising you, the man who inspired me in 2017.
On a up note your helper, a regular visitor to me on Saturday night, was a great craic, good company, hats off to him.

still a lot better than Scalford from an exhibitor's point of view and the wider corridors are better for visitors
and a hotel lift makes heavy kit viable without follow on medical issues  in a perfect world I'd like a massive room for my W8s to open right up but it's what can afford and the hotel will put up with!!
big thanks to everyone who came along come what may us lot had a great time, there is another floor not used and Peter will welcome other forums to exhibit again next year - unless you exhibit you will not realise what fun it is on Saturday, someone described it a like a Dublin pub

I sent the link to the team that had the re oreintated Quad 57's, they are grateful for the coverage :respect:
Great video, Shane. Thanks for sharing!
Marco.
Those speakers he hadn't made a note of (last of big rooms, just before bring and buy slae) were infact my Usher Dancer Mini 2 diamond DMDs, not bloody Focals or SFs. I even had posters up in the room with the kit list.
Anyway other than that I quite enjoyed the video, thanks for posting.
