A hello to everyone.

I am Nabs (shortened middle name) and based in Manchester.

A couple of years ago I suddenly came to the realisation that I had been listening to the world through muffles when I attended one of the manchester hifi shows.

My system is mainly av based and is where I am starting from. I love video as much as hifi and am aim to reach my musical/audio nirvana by maximising both.

My anticipated upgrade path from my beginning (as funds allow) will be power amp(s), then pre and processor etc but I am all for maximising what one has before upgrading.

What music do I like? most genres. I came from a childhood where I preferred soundtrack music and classical, some opera, gregorian chants but love equally, jazz, bigband, some pop, world music (arabic, hindi, french, sufi music etc). Current favorites are vivaldi's 4 seasons (chesky recording - more for the clarity and detail than anything else), Grieg (paarvo), Soundtrack Kingdom of Heaven, Natacha Atlas's gafsa, nina simone, michael buble, ray charles to name a few.

I like my system to reveal detail and clarity however must move me emotionally.

I look forward to picking the brains and following the threads of the knowledgeable here.

Welcome good wide taste in music
There are a few that mix AV and HiFi here; it might be good to talk to HighFidelityGuys he has a really good duel system and gone to a lot of trouble to integrate it well

Hi Nabs and welcome, as above i run two systems as av and hifi are hard to get right in one system, stand alone processors tend to be expensive now, thats where av amps hold thier own for that purpose but are a compromise for true hifi in my opinion

Those that run two systems, do they run the in different rooms or connect them through the same speaker setup? I do not wish to compromise really however the wife certainly would not allow any more speakers in our main living area and it is here we do both.

I run it all in the same room but use B&W satalites with a sub so they are not to obtrusive, but i tend to listen to music more than watch films and also my tv av kit is not on the same stand or near the hifi.

Perhaps i'm lucky that my wife puts up with my hobby, i have amps all over the floor some days

Hi Mark,

The same one. By the way I am fan of your power cables and am intrigued by the distribution blocks on your website - I see you have a good following here as well as avforums. I note that you have the cord wired them with your dsp 2.5 cables; Are they wired throughout with the same cable? Also any filters/ surge protectors connected or a straight wired block? I am moving my equipment and therefore may be in need for a better block.
