Jacques Loussier, RIP

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Jacques Loussier, who died a few days ago at the age of 84.

Despite receiving disdainful criticism from both Jazz and Classical enthusiasts alike, Loussier’s ‘Play Bach’ performances were very popular with most music lovers and the Jacques Loussier Trio went from strength to strength.

I side with those who wisely ignore the musical snobbery displayed by some regarding his novel and imaginative interpretations. In short, I enjoy Loussier’s work very much indeed.

Those albums are actually very well recorded. One does seem to be a mish-mash of performances.

Always liked his take on the 'Gymnopédies'

I think his take on Bach was superb, I have stereo and mono versions of all the early albums, including the live one, as well as some later ones like Pagan Moon and his Debussy.

What snobbery are we talking about because I've never come across any?

Yep I've got PB 1-3 and maybe 4 in stereo and the first one in mono too, loved them since I first bought one in a charity shop,I was probably 18 then.
