I am now stocking Zavfino 1877Phono products at Ammonite Audio, starting with a selection of tonearm and interconnect cables which can be seen at https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product-category/audio-cables/

Many of you will be aware of Zavfino 1877Phono because their tonearm connectors are used by a number of high-end cable manufacturers, but their own cables are ridiculously good, well made and modestly priced. I decided to stock Zavfino 1877Phono after trialing their Mahone (https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/zavfino-1877phono-the-mahone-tonearm-cable/) tonearm cable which costs just £119 yet easily blows away much more expensive alternatives. The Highlands (https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/zavfino-1877phono-the-highlands/)pure silver tonearm cable is a true high-end product yet costs only £355. Rarely does such sensible pricing bring such great sonic and musical performance.

In due course I will also stock Zavfino 1877Phono connectors and accessories which can be seen at https://www.zavfino1877.com/ .

I'd be interested to see how these stack up against my Furutech AG-12 which cost a bit more. sounds interesting.

The Zavfino 1877Phono Highlands tonearm cable has spent a couple of days on the burn-in machine so I can give some thoughts on how it sounds, and how it builds on the already heady musical performance of the Mahone tonearm cable.

Like the Mahone tonearm cable, the Highlands is a relatively unassuming, lightweight and flexible design, impeccably built. It comes in a nice slim wooden box, with the cable itself inside a lovely zipped padded fabric pouch that could easily serve as a travel cover for a small laptop computer. What about how it sounds, and particularly against the cheaper Mahone? Well, this has been a pleasant surprise because the Highlands is not an expensive cable as such, yet it is very clearly in a sonic league above the (already very good) Mahone. What does that mean? In terms of initial impressions on soundstaging, dynamics and detail, the Zavfino 1877Phono 'family' character is there, and more - you get a fantastic sense of being a part of the recorded space where individual details and instruments are even more precisely placed, and since I listen mostly to classical music, that means instruments in the correct places. It's amazing how a cable can screw up soundstaging and localisation of recorded sounds, but that does happen, but the Mahone and Highlands cables get these things right. Moving on, some people automatically assume that a silver cable is going to sound brighter than copper, but the silver Highlands sounds really delicate and refined, compared to the slightly more exuberant Mahone. Delicate and refined does not mean boring - far from it since the Highlands is one of those audio components that draws you into the music and however much you try to listen to 'HiFi' stuff like bass, treble etc, you just sit back and listen, occasionally startled by the texture of a string sound or the realisation that a brass instrument is actually muted. Then it's time to get up and change the LP. This is why we audiophiles aim for better music replay.

The Highlands tonearm cable is truly wonderful - by far the best sounding and most musical cable that I've used, at any price, let alone the very modest £355 which this thing costs. I'm a bit stunned at how good this cable is.

I use the TAD-3 on my tonearm cables, very easy to work with and good quality too.
In fact I’m going to order a couple more for the spares box now. Great value at these prices.

New Zavfino 1877Phono products inbound to Ammonite Audio, expect by 5 November 2019:

MAJESTIC OCC Tonearm Cable. https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/zavfino-1877phono-majestic-occ-tonearm-cable-copy/ . This cable shares the construction of the pure silver HIGHLANDS cable, but uses pure OCC copper conductors. That means a bolder, more colourful sound character while still doing the 'detail thing' nearly as well as the HIGHLANDS, at a very sensible price of £195 including VAT and UK delivery. This cable has long 'tails' which will span up to 50cm for people with wide preamps, or Paradise phono stages.

Zavfino 1877Phono Record Weight. https://ammonite-audio.co.uk/product/zavfino-1877phono-record-weight/ . Forget silly, massively heavy record weights - all you need is something modest but heavy enough to provide some mass damping of the LP. The Zavfino 1877Phono Record weight is 250g, so heavy enough to do that but not so heavy that it causes suspension problems. Thoughtfully designed and like all Zavfino products, beautifully finished too. Sensibly priced at £89 including VAT and UK delivery.

I'm also looking at Zavfino's Aeshna tonearm, which is a rather nicely engineered knife-edge design, with magnetic stabilisation. Here's a review of the Zavfino Copperhead turntable with Aeshna arm, by Richard Mak at Mono and Stereo https://www.monoandstereo.com/2017/10/zavfino-1877phono-copperhead-turntable.html . I believe that Richard's suggestions for design improvements are in the pipeline.

After a bit of a shipping wobble, courtesy of DHL in New York, these new Zavfino 1877Phono products are now in stock at Ammonite Audio. I also have plenty of tonearm DIN connectors, both straight and right-angle. Also, RCA-RCA Zavfino Highlands silver tonearm cable, and the Zavfino Arcadia stereo interconnect (enthusiastically reviewed on YouTube here https://youtu.be/K5tFrlCvn3o )
