(under 700€ new)
What do you think ?

All looks very nice, but no personal experience of the kit (Klipsch for whatever reason haven't made a big impact in the UK) - will you be using an ipod as the source? Lossless files?

Have you heard the itube? We sell one of them in the shop, I always felt it sounded a bit dull... But I can't speak for all of the different models

Might be a good match with the Kipsch then,as they are quite forward.

Thanks guys, actually I'm hesitating between the Fatman and a Miniwatt + dac + ND-S1 combo.

The Klipsch RB-61 have 95dB of sensitivity, so a Miniwatt is more than enough. ;)

Personally I'd go for the latter.
You could even substitute the amp for one of these http://www.hllyelectronics.com/html/fm_transmitter_1_64.html

Yes,I like the Hlly Tripath amps. The T-amp 10 would be a good match with those speakers.

Not my discipline (i-pod docks) but what about the Fatman (I love the look of it) with some Behringer actives (the ones selling for £200 or thereabouts), which I'm told are very good for very little money?

I finally got an old amp and a tuner, I've also found some Yamaha speakers (passive), and a digital dock.

So, it will be:

A Pioneer SA-8500, (the last model of amps full dual mono, before the crazy race for lowest distortion starting with the next model: SA-8500 model II.... :()
http://i68.servimg.com/u/f68/11/18/43/84/pionee10.jpg

a Pioneer TX-7500

an Onkyo DS-1

and a pair of Yamaha NX-800
http://www.son-video.com/images/dynamic/Enceintes_compactes/articles/Yamaha/YAMNXE800/Yamaha-NX-E800-Noir_P_450.jpg

(but probably I'll get other speakers)

I'll bring my old CA-540C CD player, just in case. ;)

I'll report back when all this is installed. :)

Nice tuner Dimitri.

Yep, thanks Neil, moreover it was for free. If you're interested, I can keep it for you when I won't have the use anymore. ;)

Don't know how it sounds, yet, but I think it should be ok. I have the manuals (and the schematics, I didn't remember that back in 75 they were giving the schematics !!!).

I owned that same amp years ago, 85wpc rms from memory, really nice with plenty of power.

What I call some heavy iron.

Very nice indeed.

Geez, too much work this week, can't even visit my beloved hifi site...

Anyway, the amp needs servicing, unfortunately. It goes into protection muting after a few minutes of use. Pity. :(

Your going to love the RB-61's .
I auditioned a well broken in pair,The Klipsch horn has come a long way in the last few years.
Drive them with some power for a couple of weeks before you use them with a low power amp,the sourrounds need to be worked out a little.

The modle you picked use Bennic caps and very nice componates.

The RB-81 is 97 DB. and might be another option for you if the extra shipping weight is not an issue.

I would agree with that statement with 90% of Klipsch gear the older stuff was really in your face and honky but not so much with the RB 61's I have heard them and they are light years ahead of the older Klipsch stuff. Why? They where smooth, had great off axis responce, sondstaged very well, and had no honky horn sound what so ever. They are however a 3rd row preformance not back of the room. They have awsome dynamic range aswell.

Because Klipsch spent a ton O money redesighning there horn to develop the Paladian modles and that technology was passed on to the RB line.
The Paladian book shelfs are $4,000.00 US dollers the Towers are 20,000.000
So as you can see the RB's useing alot of the same technology are one hell of a good deal!

Do you want the service manual for it? ;)

Thanks Andre. Fortunately, the previous owner had kept all the manuals (in perfect condition), including the service manual. Thanks, anyway. ;)

I brought the amp to service in the morning, I hope the repairs needed will be minor, otherwise the amp will go to the bin. It'll be a pity. :(

One big drawback of those amps is they use wire wrap connectors inside.

Most people soldered them over and it fixed all sorts of problems.
