View Full Version : Shure M55EM with Jico SAS stylus
As per the heading I'm selling a Shure M55EM with Jico SAS stylus, bought last year with 100 hours on it as a spare to my Zyx r100 at the time. I've put no more than 4 or 5 albums on it since then.
This is the pre-neo SAS, so has the Boron cantilever.
Not boxed but will be sent in rigid container and fully insured.
£165 including next day delivery within the UK.
Advertised elsewhere.

Superb combination. It is, but since I picked up something else it's surplus to requirements.

This is a really superb combination. I still have mine and it's extremely enjoyable. You will need to spend some series money to beat this combo. I would probably say you'll need to be in the 2M black level or carts to better this pair. GLTWS.
Found the boxes for both items AND the original Shure stylus so these will be included in the sale.

Still here, I have my eye on something new so....
[emoji16]
Looks like it's the drawer of no return for this one
Still here waiting on a new owner [emoji6]
Can't buy new toys if I don't sell this [emoji45]
Anyone interested before it goes into the drawer of ' never to be seen again'

Hi Mike,
Do you know what's the cartridge compliance? Would it be a good match with a Linn Basik LV X arm on my Acoustic Research table?
Thanks,
Andy
Hi Mike,

Thanks,
AndyI'll check the info and get back to you.
Can't find a spec sheet for it anywhere online, but reading about it I suspect it's Low Compliance due to the Boron cantilever.
As for arm matching I haven't a clue.
There are a few threads about this cart and stylus in here of which this is one of them..

Don't know if that helps.
According to vinylengine, the (dynamic) compliance of the Shure M55E is 25 x 10-6 cm/dyne. It doesn't neccessarily follow though that the Jico SAS replacement stylus assembly will have the same compliance.

Still for sale for some reason?
Close offers accepted [emoji6]
Bored yet? I am [emoji23]
This is still here, any offers before I forget about it?
PM that I received yesterday replied to [emoji6]
Such a waste of a great combo just sitting in a box [emoji50]
Ok I'll drop this to £145 with next day delivery in the UK.
Lot less than I paid for it so it's not going any lower.
Going by current prices for a Shure 55 on eBay ( £50 or so ) you're getting the Jico at less than half price and these ones are NO LONGER MADE [emoji6]
My thumb is starting to bleed from bumping this every day [emoji50]

Sorely tempted by this Mike even though I have two M55s with original styli sitting here and no suitable deck to put them on.
I borrowed this from you a while back and thought it was exceptional. Astonished that it hasn't moved.

I borrowed this from you a while back and thought it was exceptional. Astonished that it hasn't moved. It's a really nice cartridge, I bought it as a spare but I now have an ADC XLM III plus two styli as spare so this would be better off with someone else who will use it.
I paid quite a bit more than I'm asking and it won't be going any lower or it WILL be kept as a spare lol.
heading towards 3000 views soon
Sale fail methinks [emoji23]
Don't be too downhearted Mike. Three months might seem a long time, but times are hard for a lot of people and money is not so freely available. Leave it up for sale here; be patient - someone might buy it as a Christmas present to themselves.

Not in a rush to sell so it will get a bump every now and again.
It's for sale at £35 less than I paid for it having only used it for a couple of LPs so it won't be going any cheaper. If it doesn't sell then it's an excellent spare.
I have owned this cartridge and stylus combination and it is extremely good especially for the money. It knocks on the door of a 2M black but slightly less edgy/powerful.
Cant believe its still for sale Mike!

I haven’t a clue but hopefully someone more knowledgeable might know and reply.
Anyone able to help out with the OL Silver II compatibility?
The only info I can add is that this combo sounded great on my Fidelity arm ( High Mass 20g ) and my Mission 774 ( Low Mass 4g ? )

This thread ran for nearly as long as Coronation Street . Glad you've shifted the M55, a great cart.

I'm sure the new owner will be delighted with it, I should probably have kept it as a backup but to be honest until my current cart dies it would just sit in it's box doing nothing, someone is as well enjoying it.
Just had a PM to say everything has arrived in Finland safe and sound.[emoji4]
Sale complete, thanks to all who posted encouragement and info.
Well done Mike, what a marathon sale. Keep us informed if you get any more feedback from the buyer, it would be good to know how it sounds in his system?
