Headphone amp

Hi everyone,
I bought this last year as I don’t have a headphone socket on my amp. It just sounds really distorted.
Is it a cheap copy or worth tinkering with to see what the issues are?

Little Bear stuff usually works decently enough. Could it be a mismatch to your headphones? Or, are you overdriving the input?

It's hardly going to be a cheap copy of a cheap amp! :)

Thanks for the reply, I’m using the ‘tape out’ from my amp as an input as none of my amps have a headphone socket.

I thought the output would be fine? It’s just very distorted.

It could be as simple as a bad solder joint, a failing switching power supply ,dust in the volume control.
In my opinion it would make more sense to keep the tubes and buy a dependable headphone amp.

Has someone put the wrong valves in that can lead to distortion, what are they and what should they be?

I looked up the board and it is sold as a tube buffer.
300mv.output. I would contact little bear . Not to give you bad news but look at all the comments on this product .
It was sold as a kit too.
You have a very early one. Seems some power supply's are 12v and some 18 v.
I think I'd give that a try and if they can't help you donate it to a college where they learn electronics repair.
Or use it to keep papers from flying off your desk .

Thanks for the advice. These are the tubes supplied. I may have a fiddle myself, but I think it may be a case of just waiting for something to come along

Can't see the writing they should say 6N1 or 6N2 or something like that on them.

6J1 I think.
From what I can find the H/phone amp is more suitable for higher impedance phones. What impedance are yours?

I’ve got Sennheiser HD565 headphones, I could try a different set though?

According to the specs it's 150ohms which is relatively high, it shouldn't be an impedance issue at all volumes, only potentially the very highest.
