View Full Version : Kegworth - so who's going?

I thought it might be a good idea to post this question free of any 'baggage'.

With the Wam and PFM in attendance, I feel it would be nice to show our support for our AoS members who are making the effort. I realise that it is a considerable trek for many members (although probably no worse than any other venue), but I for one will doing my damnedest to make it there, to meet Audio Al, Bencat, and anyone else who may be making the trip.

Marco - I only live about 130 miles from the venue, so no need for the private jet, but if the Brabster is still available (I believe that hen party have cancelled), that would be ideal. As long as you're wearing your chauffeur cap.

Who else will be likely to make the trip, as often these things can 'snowball' (oh if he's going, I will too). Similarly if my non-attendance would increase the numbers I'm prepared to bow out :(

Thanks Grant, I've already started doing the spadework (putting bins out, making cups of tea without being asked). Brownie points are every bit as valuable as air miles :)

None of my friends have any real interest in things Hi Fi, so apart from my own stuff, the only systems I normally get to hear are ones put together by traders. It would be nice to hear some 'real world' set ups.

Well I am going, with my buddy "Wizmax" from the Wam. He is putting a system together from vintage gear mainly, with a Rogers amp & speakers plus his Technics SP10/Encounter/Ortofon Rohmann & has kindly allowed me to add my 401/Jelco 750D/Highphonic MCR5 & Denon DL-102 mono to the mix. We thought it was a good idea to have two turntables as there are so few these days compared to all the digital based systems.

That was the plan, but first I needed to get the stains out - I don't want to be an embarrassment to AoS - so Anita put it on a boil wash. It has shrunken so badly that I will need to lose about six stones to fit in it. I'm trying my best, I no longer deep-fry my Weetabix, but with only three weeks to go I feel that time is not on my side :(

Just a heads up for those that do not frequent the Wam Forum it has been announced that the Room allocations will be done and released on 01/03 so anyone can see where to find those exhibiting and plan your day. Would also note for anyone who is showing a system that 28/02 is the last day they will be able to make a note of any changes to your system .You can still make the changes after that but they will not appear in the guide and layout brochure that gets given to visitors on the day .

Bencat
01-03-2019, 23:32
Right for anyone interested the room allocations have been made for Kegworth . I will be in room 108 . If any visit and come to the room please introduce yourself and let me know your from AOS . I can guarantee I will forget all names given to me but for the time you are there it will make me pleased to know you made the effort. If you enjoy the system and the music let me know . If you dont then slink out the room quietly . Open invitation if you want to hear something specific either bring a CD (sorry not vinyl playback) or just ask me i may well have it on my hard drive .

Just a few weeks to go chaps. And as an added incentive I have had a generous offer from Mike Valentine of Valentine music.

He has given me 5 free tracks including 3 x 24/192 of his recordings, one of which I attended. I intend to let every exhibitor have a set of them if they want them. And if you see me and say 'you are George47 and I claim my free music' you can have a copy as well. I took the Beethoven 10 minute track around to two audiophiles yesterday and they were amazed at the dynamics of the recording and demanded a copy. It is a great recording and has not been released yet.

From your mad Wammer (less of the olde Justin ).

I'm in 119 if you want to say hello. HiFi currently in a transient state as I haven't quite gelled everything together with my Jordan JX92S based speakers. Really wanted valves to work but looks like I'll probably be bringing my Tripath amp which sounds the most balanced across the whole frequency range.

I will also have my new TT and not the rock as advertised on the spreadsheet/show brochure, haven't heard it yet as it doesn't arrive til tomorrow, but from the reviews it should sound friggin awesome.

Yes, of course, you can always ask why. It’s not an easy answer though. In short I guess the show has lost the original mojo for me. You have to remember I’ve been to all the previous shows, but looking at this years contributors I’ve heard it all before (full respect to those who go to extraordinary lengths to take part though). However, the weird and extreme side has been decreasing/alienated over the years and that is where my own interest lies. The same sensation of ennui also seems to be shared by my audio friends and that also discourages me from attending. For newbies I still strongly recommend it - but I’m not a newbie.... .. .

It would appear this not the case so long as all you ordered was pies as Peter feels that this is part of the tradition . What he has asked is that we do not extend this to things like pasties Quiche etc as this does eat a little in to the hotel catering . I think this is fair and hope that we can get the orders for Pies resinstated and brought along . It was my intention to used the stand pie cut in to segements and offered to those coming in to the room to listen on Sunday (and yes that is a bribe ) the Pork Pie I ordered was all for me .

There could be a Northern show (proper Northern, not as Cranage Hall is referred to as being), serving, say, Yorkshire upwards. I think there'd be sufficient demand to make it a success, *if* it was promoted properly.
